I saw a pile of them for 200 yen each in DenDenTown 4 months ago

What’s DenDenTown like? I’ve spent a lot of time in Akihabara recently and found some amazing stuff (one shop has Space Invaders Virtual Collection …..for ~20,000 yen) but I heard DenDenTown is cheaper and you can find older stuff.

I run Project 64 v1.6 on my Vista laptop, and I find it runs about 85% of the games perfectly or close to it….

what n64 emulator works so well? i always have terrible luck with those things.

For Windows, Project 64 is great.
If you’re running Linux I recommend Mupen64plus.

/offtopic

Anyone else try Reality Boy 0.84 in on 64bit Linux?

I found this .pdf regarding the issue I’m having…. I think.

The recommendation here is duality throughout the code, so that it can be compiled in either 32bit or 64bit versions, although I saw a better recommendation somewhere that allowed the source code to remain much more simple… something about size_t?

I’ve got 3 Sega Saturns too. It’s a very interesting console, with many original games. Mostly i like games Panzer Dragon I&II.

3?! Panzer is good.

I liked the Virtua series and the Netlink games. My favorites were Virtua Cop (I&II) and Virtual ON (Netlink Edition). My first internet access was through the Sega Saturn.

I remember when I came to the store one day and all the Saturn games were gone. The games were just…. gone. Same thing with the VB, when they had been on sale only a week before.

Let’s see….

Nintendo:
NES
SNES
Gameboy
Virtual Boy <3
N64

Sega:
Genesis
CD
Saturn <3
Dreamcast

Sony:
Playstation 2
PSTwo (JP)*

Other:
R-Zone Headgear (Tiger)
Various handhelds (Tomy, Tiger, etc)

*Everything else is US.
**In general, I have the original version of most of these systems, the exceptions being the PSTwo (says it’s SPCH-70000 but the insides are all wrong…) and the Gameboy which is a clear plastic type And the NES which is a classic type but after the update to block unlicensed games. Other than that I don’t know many details. The Sega CD looks funny attached to the original Genesis (like a big man with little shoes).

Any other Saturn fans here? That system and those games got me through some very nerdy years.

It wasn’t exactly 3d, but I remember having a portable, head mounted game system with only one eye visor. the games were LCD panels with translucent vinyl backgrounds. The games would be projected onto the reflective visor so it was difficult to see in bright places and you could see through the display. The controller had ten buttons, very few of which were ever used.

It’s probably in my parents garage at the bottom of a box. I never played it much because the design had a serious flaw. It simply weighed too much. Inevitably, it would slide down while you were playing, and also stretch half the skin on your face rather uncomfortably (eyebrow vs. eye).

*UPDATE*

I fount it. It was the “R-Zone Headgear” made by Tiger. Apparently it may also have been “competition” for the Virtual boy….

Both, unfortunately, were market failures.

I had forgotten all about the GBC until I saw a pile of them for sale the other day. This junk shop had about fifty in a big box looking sad and abandoned 🙁

I wonder if they could be put to some use… they’re relatively small, very cheap (i think they were on sale for like 300 yen..) and don’t require a lot of processing power…

They’d make good visual sensors for some kind of robot…. 💡

Hello!

I am compiling this for Linux, specifically Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 (x86_64) and I seem to be stuck at the first, or maybe second step.

I modified the makefile for my architecture, but I am not sure this is right:

#Set the OBJ and Link flags, based on Debug and Profile

ifdef DEBUGMODE

# build a debug version
#OFLAGS = -g -march=i486 -O3 -ffast-math DBG_PRINT
OFLAGS = -g -m64 -O3 -ffast-math DBG_PRINT
LFLAGS =

else

ifdef PROFILEMODE

# build with profiling information
#OFLAGS = -pg -march=i486 -O3 -ffast-math
OFLAGS = -pg -m64 -O3 -ffast-math
LFLAGS = -pg

else

# build a normal optimised version
#OFLAGS = -march=i486 -O3 -ffast-math -fomit-frame-pointer
OFLAGS = -m64 -O3 -ffast-math -fomit-frame-pointer
LFLAGS = -s

Basically I just changed the -march option and left everything else alone.

The compiler will indeed start now, but never finishes and prints many warnings regarding signed and unsigned integers before it finally fails with:

../src/vb_vbt.cpp: In function 'int v810_init(char*)':
../src/vb_vbt.cpp:954: eror: cast from 'VB_BYTE*' to 'unsigned int' loses precision
../src/vb_vbt.cpp:963: eror: cast from 'VB_BYTE*' to 'unsigned int' loses precision
../src/vb_vbt.cpp:986: eror: cast from 'VB_BYTE*' to 'unsigned int' loses precision
../src/vb_vbt.cpp:998: eror: cast from 'VB_BYTE*' to 'unsigned int' loses precision
../src/vb_vbt.cpp:1037: eror: cast from 'VB_BYTE*' to 'unsigned int' loses precision
../src/vb_vbt.cpp:1045: warning: comparison between signed and unsigned integer expressions
make: *** [vb_vbt.o] Error 1

My programming skills are rusty, but I’m tempted to dive into the code and see if I can do anything there… any better ideas?

Also, does this project have a CVN and is it listed on any bug trackers?

*UPDATE*
Upon further investigation, it seems this is not a simple compiler error, nor necessarily an error in programming. This is a core issue in the development of 64bit code from 32bit. If another type of integer were used, it can be compatible with both architectures. While casting between signed and unsigned integers works in some 32bit environments, it is not possible in 64bit architecture.

>>reality_boy
Is there anything, other than the integer casting, which absolutely necessitates a 32bit environment?

I’m going to look through the code and see if I can make it compatible with both environments, but I’m going to need some very soft walls to bang my head on while I do it. Anybody got a recommendation for a cheap padded cell?

Unfortunately that’s all since I lost the box ages ago (I was a foolish child :-()

Forget the screwdriver, what’s all that cool blue-ish clear plastic stuff on your desk? Are those robot parts?!

That is exactly what they are! They’re parts for a Cartesian Robot (3 axis positioning system) which is for a RepRap (http://www.reprap.org). They’re laser-cut acryllic and the blue part is scratch-protecting film. Sadly, this will be discarded, but the clear plastic machine is beautiful anyway 🙂

(Actually, thanks for the info about the screwdriver. 😀 I found this page: http://www.osg-global.jp/products/lhstix/)

Maybe you can order these directly, but if you or anyone needs help acuiring one, I can get them and mail them. They don’t cost much (don’t remember exactly), but I don’t know about shipping. Also, incidentally the colors match the VB (!)

Are you looking for this?

I know a place to buy these in Akihabara.

It’s made by OSG Corporation. The product is LH Stix DLH3-95.

It can take all the screws out of the VB. The two deepest ones on either side of the cartridge slot took a little force, but no real problem.
