Really? I even specifically looked this info up and got the general consensus that they don’t. Then again, Wikipedia is showing a ton of different acids that these batteries consist of, so maybe I was wrong after all.
EDIT:
And don’t go saying: FF or Chrome is better! That would not suit a Virtual Boy user, as most new consoles are technically better than VB 😛
To be completely honest, IE has become so outdated that calling the other browsers better is now more of a fact than an opinion… It is lacking many, many different standards that should make modern web pages render properly, and web developers keep having to make hacks and workarounds to make their sites work in just that one browser – all others will usually display the page in the same correct way because they all follow the W3 group’s web standards.
Besides that, Chrome’s got a ton of speed, a ton of stability, and Google puts a lot of effort into making it as secure as possible. Who wouldn’t want to switch to something like that? (Okay, maybe people who like having a ton of features, but IE doesn’t apply there; Firefox does.)
And no, I’m not trying to start a flame war here. 😉
Welcome to Planet Virtual Boy, where fans old and new flock to talk about the VB! 😛
I wish I had heard about the VB much earlier (I heard of it first like 2 years ago). They’re rare now… Luckily svenk91 sent me a link where I can get one.
Get rechargeable batteries. Those don’t leak. 😉

there is acids, there its newly splattered on the drawer 😯
Aw. Oh well, it’s out now. 🙂

The top one in that list seems to be a ripoff in comparison to the others. 😛

did you ever play a Virtual Boy though? 😛
I’ve never even seen one for real. 🙁
I emulate some stuff though (mostly homebrew and Wario Land).

Can you believe I don’t actually have a Virtual Boy?You’re a real heartbreaker, DaVince. 😯 🙁
Hey, the VB doesn’t require maintenance as long as it isn’t broken. 😛
Okay, cool. The only obstacle will be the prices (and actually tracking one down), then. It’ll be my next target, that’s for sure.
I didn’t actually skim the list and just replied to the subject because others were, and I had something to say about it. 😛
I’m collecting games and consoles, but rather slowly. Currently getting Sega Saturn-related stuff. I am especially interested in both classic gems and great games that totally went under the radar. I don’t feel like posting a list right now.
Can you believe I don’t actually have a Virtual Boy? I’m thinking of getting that next but the price ranges are rather high for my limited spending money and the amount of maintenance the console itself needs is rather intimidating. 😛
“is the VB Red/Black or Black/Red?”
Both. It has both colors. 😐
Considering its price and rarity, this one probably is one you won’t be getting (unless you’re rich and lucky)…

A version of the SP with a brighter backlight.
I read that the “mark 2” (actually model AGS-101) is this. Released mostly only in the US. I’m thinking of tracking one down since I get the screen brightness of a DS on the best type of GBA out there. 🙂
Open them. I’ve had old consoles with leaked batteries before, but at this point, the acid has probably dried up and you can carefully (maybe with the help of a thin stick) remove the batteries from the device. But even touching them with your fingers won’t do much at this point (that is, the point where it’s actually dried up).
Make sure to clean the contacts and wash your hands with soap afterwards, if the batteries indeed turned out to have leaked.
DO NOT get rid of your devices. If you really can’t get yourself to open it, the least you should do is have someone else try it, or sell them on eBay with the note that you don’t know if batteries have leaked. That way they will finally turn out to be of some use.
I mean heck, who has a Wonderswan? Not many people. Don’t waste it.
Modern romanization of Japanese has it as “n”, that is, Gunpei. Gumpei is acceptable since it’s used in older romanization (if you’re into anime, old ones had “sempai”, new ones have “senpai”, for example) Also, there is the older “oh” variation on “ou” (you’ll see a lot of “oh”s at the end of Wario Land 1 for Gameboy).
Well, to be completely fair, is *everyone* here really for the nostalgy? I mean, I never owned one as a kid, and am instead attracted to the VB because it’s simply such an interesting old console with a set of surprisingly good (but usually small) games…
This seems strangely appropriate here… 😛
Anyway, just go play your VB. It’s not like any of that stuff is related to your actual VB, it’s just a console.
Not an auction, but these do seem to be good prices (some Japanese VB games):

If you’re getting some “malicious page” warning from your browser, ignore it. It’s a false positive.
I wish I had this. Mother 3 Deluxe Gameboy Micro, Limited Edition Japanese Only.
Good point about SVG fonts working in Chrome, but I’d like to see some documentation backing up your claims about its standards compliance. For example, what web standard(s) does it support that the others don’t? (I know you said “AFAIK”, and you’re not on trial or anything, just thought you might have an article or something handy).
Well, I mostly mean the daily build of the browser, since that’s what I’m running. Kind of how the people running the unstable builds of Firefox get more or less the latest, too. I wonder why I said it was so far ahead… Well, compared to IE, any browser is, and Google is actually a large contributor to the WebKit browser engine itself, which is probably why I thought it.
(By the way, my point of view is mostly from the current work on HTML5 support… which seems totally irrelevant to web fonts, anyway. Heh.)
Anyway, as for the SVG fonts… Those have been working for a long time in the big rendering engines, anyway. That is, Gecko, WebKit and Presto.
No, you don’t even have to credit me.
So, Public Domain then. That’s cool of you. 🙂
The font works nicely, by the way.
