Hi guys, I’ve not been on the forums for a while but I’m back and around a bit more now.
I saw Hedgetrimmer a couple of months ago and he mentioned this project to me. After reading through the thread I would like to put my name down for a cable as well.
Hope everyone is well, it’s good to be back.
SD Gundam game uses it too, in the Gundam battle mode. Each direction activates a different attack iirc.
Of course, you are both right…emulated VB gaming nowhere near matches playing on the proper kit.
Which is why I want a Flashboy!
I have a friend looking out for those chips in bulk and if anyone can find them, he can. Fingers crossed here for batch to turn up soon.
🙂

Great video’s, both of them. What about Chariots of fire from Vangelis? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYJzcUvS_NU To give it an epic touch…
Svenk, you do have good vision there but unfortunately 3:22 is a bit long for a promo vid and Vangelis don’t really scream dynamic energy. I love the Bladerunner soundtrack but I think Chariots of Fire is a leap too far for our VB coding comp.

I immediately thought of “Haddaway – What Is Love”.
I know it came in 1993, but I’m not certain it was a hit everywhere that same year. 😉Perhaps Ace of Base – but I guess it should be something more electronic…
Shaggy Boombastic maybe?
Not sure quite how to put this Frog but, no, those Eurodance acts will never feature in any work of mine. I know you Swede’s have to defend the likes of Basshunter but still…no.
We’re going to try a mid-90’s techno sound with EON and if I don’t use any EON tune it’ll be something very similar. The beeps, bleeps and bass are all perfect for the style of title animation I have created and the music itself is particularly reminiscent of the mid-90’s computing technology.
I really appreciate all the ideas and input guys, even if it’s not the kinds of things I can ultimately work with, thank you and keep ’em coming.

dont goa hating on my video just because his video looks more 3D^^
I got a lot of love for your video Akumie, it was inspirational.
@RP: EON shall be tried out in the composition.
@HT: ‘Fear is the mindkiller’ has to be a favourite? We could spend another 3 weeks composing something on the pad. 😎
Thanks guys, that’s a really encouraging response.
@RunnerPack: I’m using Adobe AfterEffects for all the animation and effects; with P/Shop, Illustrator and Premiere for creating other assets and elements.
💡 I shall have a dig through my records as well, surely there’s a nice piece of music in there from 1995 or thereabouts 💡
The storyboard for the full length promo has more game footage flying around and the prizes shown off with some more title animation.
YaY!
Hi guys,
So its been a couple of weeks and I’ve been quiet I know. The weather has been nice for a change so I have to admit catching some time in the sun…
I felt a little guilty for not getting on with a little promo I’d promised to have a crack at so set to it with renewed vigor over the last few days. The result is a short teaser vid which says ‘what and where’ with a full length promo in production to follow. I’m still sourcing the best music and game sounds to use and tidying up some Camtasia grabs of the emulator but this should give you a taste of what I’ve been doing.
I had about 6k Stars/Nintendo points on my account 12months ago but they seem to have bugged out or disappeared altogether.
Bums.
Thanks Frog, I was looking at the wrong page for Akumie’s video so that’s all good.
re: the MP3’s..
I was trying to sneakily download them at work onto the laptop I have. Unfortunately, all the computers here at work – inc. my laptop – are Apple Mac. No worries though, after holding down a few different buttons and clicking on the links I was able to get the mp3’s I needed downloaded.
*Update*
Hey all, or in fact anyone watching this thread 🙂
It was a busy weekend indeed and I didn’t even get the majority of the asset building done! Most of the P/Shop stuff is complete now though and I should start to put the animation/promo film together tonight after work.
@Kr155e: The sound/music files hosted here at PlanetVB won’t download for me. They’ll play through Quicktime but I can’t save the source without having Quicktime Pro. Anyway could you email a zip or two over to me please fella?
@Akumie: I noticed your promo had been taken down off YouTube, was that your doing or did it happen by way of some moderation process? Either way, I was a bit surprised.
Just keeping you all informed anyway, my YouTube name is MrDevilsAvocado and that’s where I’ll be hosting the file when it renders out.
Yup, my session still times out in Firefox and I have to relog.

You don’t need to ask Kr155e, your freak status is assured my friend 😀
No worries Akumie, I have the emulator running nicely and sucked Camtasia down off the newsgroups last night…its gonna be a busy weekend 🙂
Remake Space Harrier plx !!!11 😎
Failing that there is a whole host of old school arcade games which would throw up some real interesting ideas for original VB games.
Vector Star Wars
Rolling Thunder
Tron…I’m thinking a first person view of a light bike game AND some form of 3D disc chucking malarkey(using similar controls to the space battle dynamic in the rare Gundam VB release)
…oh how I wish I spoke C++ or understood any sort of computer programming language.
*sigh*
Excellent, thanks Kr155e, I have some stuff to be going on with there. You’re right about capturing footage from the emulator straight off the desktop, I’ll check Camtasia out.
Al, do you need a copy of 3DS? If you could export object files from Solidworks for use in 3DS you’d be away like a good’un. If you can animate in Solidworks, which I remember you telling me is difficult, I imagine it’s not a straightforward timeline/keyframing effort?
I just picked up on this thread but I have to say ‘fairplay’ to Akumie for going to the effort of making this and it’s only because he’s said he won’t make another, that I now want to have a go.
First things first though:
– How did you capture/film the in-game footage from the previous homebrew’s? (I do not have a Flashboy unfortunately)
– Is there a straightforward way of capturing VB music/sound effects?
– Can anyone forward me some files to use (cuts down on my production time)? Any are good, pics of the t-shirts, any footage of homebrew games running … How’s that Solidworks model coming along HT?
Thanks in advance for any of the above which are offered.

Such a good starting idea for those thinking of entering…remake an arcade classic for VB!!
Oh yeah Space Harrier, as i think Runnerpack already mentioned, if the effects could be pulled off right it would look great in 3D VB style.
Could the source for it be modded/tweeked to suit VB?
Or am i being a wee bit optimistic there.
😀
Now you’re talking HT!
Space Harrier would be fricken awesome!
Who was it who brewed up that Out Run styled game? Maybe they’ve got the skills?
😎
Yup, and to be honest, that’s what I’d really like to see on the VB…more homebrew games. I am aware of the time it takes to develop such a thing though, so I eagerly await the competition results in November.

…anyone remember the old vector graphics Star Wars arcade game? Come on, who didn’t play Red Alarm for the first time and think of that badboy?!
