Yeah, it can be done… there were actually a couple commercial games that allowed daisy-chaining of these: http://www.amazon.com/Gameboy-Four-Player-Adapter-Game-Boy/dp/B0001YYO0M . Faceball 2000 did up to 16 players, and Penguin Wars did up to 10 players.

I think everything’s been answered, but it may also be worth checking Craigslist in your local area to buy one.

DogP

Cool… looks like a Faceball flyer.

Just a quick update… those in the ambassador program can download their NES games… and I just saw they’ve added LoZ: Four Swords as a free download (I believe for everyone).

It can be done, and I’ve already made a USB link cable adapter… but there’s hardly any software for the linked VB, and even less for the USB link. It would be really cool to do eventually though, and when the link connector shells finally get made, I have plans for a PCB w/ a USB chip to fit inside the shell, so you just plug in a Mini-USB cable.

I agree… the VB one is my favorite, though the GB one is good as well. I did like Warioworld (Gamecube), though it was VERY short and pretty easy. I didn’t think Shake It was that good, but I thought Master of Disguise was lame.

Though I gotta say, I liked it much better when Wario was the bad guy… like Mario Land 2 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6NdUJ8vtA0 . Obey Wario, Destroy Mario! THAT was an awesome game.

DogP

Yeah, it’s the system. Due to brightness levels and other things controllable by the game, certain games can cause the problems to become evident when other games look fine… but it’s not the cartridge itself.

Was just wondering if there was a way to make it do something while the wav is playing. Right now it pauses everything while the wav sound is playing.

Not the way it’s currently written, but you could, as long as you have some way to update the sound at the desired sample rate.

The sample used a 11025 Hz sample rate, which means it has to be updated approximately every 90 microseconds. That’s about 1800 CPU cycles, which you can handle yourself, or set up a timer interrupt. You could also use a lower sample rate to increase the amount of time.

I wouldn’t recommend playing WAVs as your main method of sound though… I imagined using it like the commercial games do… as a special effect during unimportant parts, like “Good Luck” or “Welcome to Space World, Lets Go!” (or whatever they say).

And I agree… it does seem to scroll a little slower (Firefox 4), but it’s not really a big deal.

Also, another question, im using teleroboxer for my doner so i can save so is there anything i need to connect to the ram? also DogP do i need that other thing thats soldered onto your testboard?

You don’t need to do anything to use the RAM… it’ll just work. And if you’re talking about the jumper blocks on my EPROM cart… no, you don’t need them. I think they were so I could switch between using EPROMs and Flash.

DogP

I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking… but if by numbers matching up, you mean why D0-D7 are connected to D0-D7 on one, and D8-D15 on the other, that’s because the VB has a 16-bit wide bus, but the EPROMs the diagram is describing are 8-bit wide. So you’re using two EPROMs to make the 16-bit wide bus.

I dunno if this helps, but I’ve got some info on my site. Cart pinout – http://www.projectvb.com/tech/cartpinout.html , and various step-by-step cart builds – http://www.projectvb.com/progcart.html .

Just a heads up in case anyone’s looking to pick one up… Wal*Mart has dropped their price already, which gives Ambassador status to anyone who buys it before the 12th, at the new lower price without having to deal with price matching or anything.

I went and grabbed one up this evening… while my initial impression of the system was a little “meh”, after messing around with it a little bit, I’m pretty impressed. Hopefully when the good games start rolling out I’ll be hooked.

Question: I know we’re not supposed to play games we don’t have on our Flash Boy, but I was wondering whether playing something like Bound High! would be OK (under law or what have you.)

Of course not… you don’t own the rights to play the game, just like any other game that you don’t own. But I’d be pretty certain that nobody will be knocking on your door for playing a bootleg of an obscure prototype for an obscure system.

But what about the price drop from $299.99 down to $169.99 only a few mere months after launch?

The price drop was only from $249.99 to $169.99… I agree that a price drop already is kinda scary, but I don’t think it necessarily means doom for the 3DS. I think they’re either getting the price point to where it shoulda been, trying to undercut the Vita, or simply trying to get more systems in people’s hands (so they sell more games).

DogP

I don’t think they’ve given up yet… I think they picked the wrong price point from the start, and to keep current customers happy (those that “overpaid” for the console), they’re giving away the free downloads.

I personally think they just need some good games, not a lower price, but maybe they need more system sales before 3rd parties will jump onboard (chicken and egg kinda thing).

DogP

Isn’t Zelda: Skyward Sword coming out for the Wii, not the 3DS, or did I miss something about a 3DS version?

DogP

Jump is usually up on the D-Pad in 2D fighting games. Typically there’s Punch and Kick as seperate buttons… and even strong, weak, etc (R trigger could be strong/weak modifier?). I wouldn’t make start an action button… how will you pause? There should be a way to block as well… maybe L trigger, or sometimes backing away from the opponent blocks. For special moves, usually you have to do a sequence… like Down, Forward, A.

DogP

BTW, just in case anyone hasn’t seen the previews for those games, here’s Mario Kart 7: http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/news/a331989/mario-kart-7-preview.html , and Mario 3D: http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/news/a323767/super-mario-3d-preview-e3-2011.html .

All retail games are illegal to download

As far as I know, its legal to download homebrew games (I’m not sure if burning them onto a disc is illegal though, as some game consoles require modification to play them (I’m not sure if the 3DO is one of them)… however I’m pretty sure the only punishment for that is a void warranty, which the 3DO already has)

The 3DO doesn’t require any sort of console modification, and burning homebrew would be perfectly legal, as would any retail game that the copyright owner has given rights to do so (it does happen sometimes, though I don’t know in the case of the 3DO).

The 3DO has some pretty good games… my favorites are Road Rash and The Horde.

DogP

I doubt there are any that are legal to download (unless there are some homebrew that have been freely released)… but I really doubt they’re actively cracking down on 3DO piracy.
