Is this “good version” you claim to have the same version you tried to sell me last month, which you said was a cart dump, and which you said you’d never offered to anyone else?

It is, and at the time I hadn’t offered it to anyone else. I certainly wouldn’t be giving it to some guy on craigslist, I can tell you that much. Keep that stuff in the community. I’ve since found out its not a cart dump and that I paid $3000k for a compiled game 8-O. At least it runs perfectly.

Oh… is that the “perfectly running” ROM from an “original dump”, which has boss stages without bosses and was compiled, that you emailed an offer to just about the entire community, but “if word of this gets out, the deal is off”? Well… word of it definitely got out.

Can someone PLEASE 😛 tell me if adaptor or adapter is the proper word in English?!

I think both are fine… I think US usually uses adapter, and UK usually uses adaptor, but I could be wrong on that. I use adapter.

And I assume the inductor is just a choke to filter out AC on the input.

It looks like that small thing on the left is an isolating transformer?

No… I think it’s just an inductor. It wouldn’t do any good to have a transformer on it, since it’s all DC (and it doesn’t do any conversion at all).

Hmm… yeah, I know exactly the problem you’re describing, but I’ve never seen it on any of my systems first-hand, so I can’t really tell you how to fix it. Basically, there’s a voice coil that causes the mirror to oscillate at 50Hz, along with sensors which feed a control circuit to either speed up or slow down the mirror.

Something in that chain is malfunctioning (duh)… either the mirrors physically (possibly intermittently hitting something, or something coming detached throwing off the smooth oscillation), or maybe the optics in the sensor are giving the controller a bad signal, or maybe a wire/connector, or maybe the voice coil is bad, or maybe there’s a problem on the servo controller board (not very likely, since the other eye works fine).

I’d just closely examine and try reseating connectors, cleaning sensors, etc… if none of that fixes it, I’d buy a cheap parts machine with glitchy displays and take the mirror assembly from that one (or swap your good displays into that machine). You can manually flick the mirrors (pull it back and let it go), and make sure it oscillates smoothly. If so, you can probably rule out something physically bad.

If someone did Wolfenstein, could it actually be posted to this site, or is that still banned in Germany?

Let’s see… how many times has this thread been hijacked? 😀 Let’s try for a record! 😛

Oh… the domain name changed??? WHY??? RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE! 😉 😀

DogP

I have… very similar to the Sega ones. I think Rad Racer was the only game I played, but it was a long time ago, so there may have been some others.

Think of the site redesign in December. It wasn’t easy to drop the old look, and many people had a lot to complain, while many others were very happy with the change. After all, it was absolutely necessary and now, after some months, I am sure it was a very good decision.

I still disagree about the site redesign… the giant header is way too big, and all the wasted space on the side is… well… wasted.

Just wanted to make sure that you knew that my lack of complaining recently doesn’t mean my dislike went away 😉 . But, it’s not gonna keep me from visiting the site. Nor would changing the name to thevirtualboyrocksbecauseitisamazinglyawesome.com . Changing it to hotdudeondudeaction.com may keep me away though 😀 .

I don’t mind shipping stuff out for people not in the US as long as it’s nothing illegal, you let me know before hand, and you pay the costs.

But aren’t you in Chile?

DogP

Yeah, Descent src is available, along with a lot of games from that era (though some have a lot of ASM, which would take a lot of effort to port).

DogP

I’ve looked at it a couple times… probably wouldn’t be too difficult (but definitely time consuming), but I personally would rather see Descent… much more immersive IMO, and one of my favorite games from that era (and puking from motion sickness on the VB would be just that much cooler 😉 ).

DogP

Yeah, if you’re using recharagble alkalines, I wouldn’t use a charging circuit, but if you use NiMH, or especially NiCd, they can definitely take a little abuse.

If you do Lithium, you definitely need a real charger, though places like Sparkfun have chargers for pretty cheap, and a charger and batteries would easily fit in a VB battery box… and have really good battery life.

DogP

There’s nothing special about the AC adapter… and it kinda keeps charging them, but just at a trickle once the voltage of the packs rises close to the input voltage.

That circuit is used in all kinds of rechargable stuff… and that’s why they usually say not to leave them plugged in all the time if it won’t be used for long periods of time.

DogP

Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend using the GG pack… I’d use some real rechargables, but in that configuration.

DogP

How about something much simpler… like: http://www.projectvb.com/rechargepack.html . Basically, you just have the battery pack constantly charging, and if AC fails, the battery takes over.

DogP

I’m not sure what would cause that… my guess would have been a corrosive moist environment, like air near a salt water beach or shipping/storage on a barge. But high temperature also helps corrosion, so it’s possibly just from temperatures.

Nothing else looked bad at all… it was really just the cables. But fortunately they weren’t completely eaten through in the upper part of the cable, and dissolving the coating and soldering as far up the cable as possible was able to fix it. Hopefully it doesn’t continue to deteriorate though.

DogP

Yeah, but can the copper corrode and turn green inside the cable from sitting on a shelf? Here’s pics from a brand new Dubai display (notice all the green traces, and the green pitting on the wide traces). Compare them to the brownish gold of a “normal” display: http://www.projectvb.com/tech/displayfix/dispinstalled.jpg .

I personally always use the stand… I agree that resting it on my face isn’t comfortable, as well as getting motion sick from the VB moving around whenever is move just a little 😛 .

And to show how ridiculous that auction is, I took 5 minutes to reseal my vertical force, and I took the time to create an H-Seam with shrinkwrap before sealing the game. :rolleyes

Heheheheh… that’s pretty funny, thanks for posting that 🙂 .

VERY cool! It’s great to see these experiences preserved on video and shared for all of us to see! 🙂
