verry nice space invaders and good price i think 299 $
Yeah, that is a very nice copy at a decent price. Plus, it’s from a reliable seller that I’ve bought from few times in the past. Too bad this one wasn’t around when I was looking for my copy. It’s a nice grab for someone with a growing collection.
That looks awesome! Please put me down for two combos!
Also, there is a misspelling on the third bullet point on the back of the box. It reads:
“Challenging scenarios will *provice* players…” This should say “provide.”
One letter isn’t a biggie, especially since one of the original games, Virtual Lab, had “Nintenndo” misspelled. I was just wondering if it wasn’t too late to change that?
Post #86 here has the spell corrected version of the original:

correct me if i’m wrong, at one point the numbering reflected the FB build number. so a box numbered 35 was the 35th FB to be constructed. now that richard no longer supplies boxes, not every FB+ has a box, so what does the numbering represent? why not just leave the numbering off of the box?
You’re correct. However, due to the custom nature of these boxes, I still believe ensuring the correct number adds collector value to those boxes that are already out there as well as those that haven’t yet been made. I don’t have a particularly low number on mine, but I’m sure those who are in the top 25 wouldn’t appreciate giving someone else the option to self-label theirs as #1 and slap it on eBay at a premium. By ensuring each one is properly counted it also gives a finite beginning and ending to this production run.
I’m not asking that numbers be included simply to appease me, but I still feel it an important factor for many collectors. With that said, perhaps the new boxes could be labeled according to their maker. For instance, a US box made by Ben could be labeled “B1” or “US1” and so on. The same for those created by Luke “L1, L2, etc?” Or perhaps the number box could just be blacked out completely?
I’m just throwing some idears out there 😉
Just curious… How are you going to go about numbering the boxes if you split them up? Are you going to pre number them and send alternating halves to each person? I’m sure no one else wants their box number duplicated…but maybe it’s just me 😉
Hedgetrimmer,
You know… I’m kind of wishing I would have ordered a plain Jane stand fix kit. I probably could have had one of those dipped to match. Hmm…
Should say: “I’m not* really into modifying anything I’m particularly fond of…”
As a child, I used to ask for things like the Tyco Hovercraft but instead I’d get some rubber band powered UFO made out of styrofoam. Or I’d clip out pictures of remote control airplanes and get arm powered paper gliders instead. It happened every birthday and Christmas. It seems like no matter what I wanted, my parents always got me something completely different. I give them an A for effort, but they were a bit out of touch when it came to toys.
So, when I saw this thing, it brought all those memories back. I’m really amazed they didn’t get me this instead of my Virtual Boy! Lol!

Glad you all like it. I was a bit hesistant at first because I’m really into modifying anything I’m particularly fond of, especially my coveted VB collection. I kept thinking – “What happens if I don’t like it,” or “What if the pattern or paint doesn’t stick?”
I should have known better because aquagraffix.com really did an awesome job. My only regret is that I masked over the logo. I think it would have looked much smoother had I just let them paint over that as well. Regardless, it still felt like Christmas morning when I opened that box! 😉

That looks great. It’s a few steps above what I can do. I now have something new to aspire to.
It’s light years above what I can do too! I just let someone else do it for me because I don’t have any skills, whatsoever, in that department. If you are interested, it was around $70 + shipping. I know that sounds a bit high, but you won’t be disappointed. I just sold some random attic stuff on eBay to fund this project.
There are also do-it-yourself hydro dip kits available online if you’d like to take charge and experiment on your own. 🙂

I’ve been playing around with “Touch My Katamari” for PSVita for a few days. I’m pretty sure it loosely translates to “Touch My Balls.”
The further I play through the game, the more the dialogue becomes sexually ambiguous. The Prince and the King have something secret going on, but I don’t think I’m willing to play through the game to watch that storyline develop.
It’s much the same as the other Katamari titles, which I have only seen friends play. However, this franchise just isn’t my cup of tea. Dare I say, this is quite possibly the worst game I’ve ever owned.
Mr. G,
Thanks for all the updates, and especially the video with the great music! I check this site regularly for your updates and appreciate the detail of your descriptions. Please keep the information coming, and thanks again for the effort you have put forth to share this with all of us.
Ran out of edit time….
I don’t know how long that copy of SD Gundam has been up for sale, but it’s still on the upper end of the market rate for that title. It also looks to be in pretty good shape.
I guess I’ve just been spoiled over the past few months from the Japanese auction sites?
I’ve seen several of your reviews, but didn’t realize it until I clicked on one of the links on this post. I agree that they are well produced and provide an impartial perspective. Sorry to hear about your bad luck, but I’m eager to see the new review. Keep up the good work!
First of all, there must be something wrong with my browser because it says that seller wants over $2,200 USD for that Japanese mosaic. Secondly, look at you scouring the global interwebs for VB items. That’s what I call commitment! 🙂
On a related note, not sure if this one has been addressed, but ouch:

(VGA is not expensive)But i prefer to play with games, touch and read the boxes/manuals again n again.
I like to live with my games.Do you have twice collection ? One VGA and another without VGA ?
I am working on twice the collection so I can dig through boxes and manuals as I see fit. However, I only have loose copies w/ manuals of 3D tetris and Teleroboxer, both of which I’m not really in a hurry to reacquire.
…and VGA does get expensive after adding extra features such as removing stickers (which I am too clumsy to do effectively), adding hang tab cut outs to the cases, and shipping + insurance there and back. The nickels and dimes add up after sending off 18 of my own titles for grading :/ (Jack Bros was purchased pre-graded on eBay)
I think I’m suspending my VB grading quest until 2013 anyway.
Yeah, you can use hot glue, but it’s not necessarily going to last any longer. I agree with RunnerPack’s post #138 here: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=19739#forumpost19739
Excuse me – That’s 175-200 degrees Fahrenheit. I don’t want any of you guys/gals outside the US burning your screens to a crisp! I’ll let you do the unit conversions to Celsius…
Dreammary is correct.
However, if this is your only option as a novice, inability to solder, temp fix for now until you can afford to get someone else to solder it, or all of the above, I can give the following tips. I’ve already melted one Virtual Boy into oblivion using this method, so the following should only be done if you are absolutely willing to take the risk for the temporary return on investment.
1) Preheat the oven to around 175-200 degrees. Make sure it is fully heated. Also, make sure you have an oven mitt on your hands AT ALL TIMES!
2) Once the oven is fully heated, turn it OFF (very important to turn it OFF before starting the process). If you leave it on, opening the door will inevitably cause the gas or heating element to come back on and create a hot current which will end up melting your LED – This effect is more of a concern on a gas stove as the flames will heat the oven even faster. It’s basically like using a hair dryer to blow the heat around (no bueno) instead of letting the air radiate the heat by itself.
3) Place the screen on a piece of aluminum foil and that on top of a baking sheet LED down (ribbon should be pointing upwards). If you put it directly on the baking sheet, it may once again melt.
4) Put it in the oven and wait about 20-30 seconds, or until the ribbon cable starts to either lay down or curl up. This should happen gradually. The more gradually, the better so the heat can penetrate deeper into the adhesive. Please note if it happens quickly, you will need your oven mitt from step 1 to yank it out of the oven ASAP and wait for it to cool down before starting again.
5) Once you are satisfied with the oven time, remove and place on a hard surface and firmly compress the edge of the ribbon cable where it meets the circuit board – hold for 30 seconds with the legth of your finger to ensure even pressure (It may still be hot, so use a paper towel to protect your skin).
Also, I would only do this to one screen at a time. There are some videos online showing people doing it two at a time, but if you don’t get it right, you’ll have to repeat the process. I didn’t see anyone saying to turn off the heat prior to putting the screens in the oven, but I wouldn’t do it any other way. Like I said, the more gradual the better.
My prayers are with you and your VB. Good Luck 🙂

and i feel great that i have inspired you to make a nice display for your Virtual boy collection.
Thanks! Discovering this whole community has made me more passionate about my collection. I used to keep everything all boxed up in the closet (other than my demo units), but what’s the fun in that? I really like your display cases and don’t have as much room as bigmak with his half room display (forgive my jealousy there), so I stole your display case idea instead. 🙂

Is there a particular site online where one can buy one of these display cases?
Ben,
I don’t know about mawa because I haven’t been able to find anything quite as refined as his. Mine came from Craigslist after months and months of searching and sifting through all the garbage. I searched for the terms “display case,” “display lock,” and “glass curio” and finally came across this used retail display. I snatched it up for just over $100 + drive time, which is quite a deal vs. the cost of new. I just had to make sure mine had a lock to keep it safe from little monsters. Although…I am also curious where mawa got his because they are really nice.
Just got my display case which was directly inspired by mawa’s awesome collection 😉
