Is that a good price now a days ? I bought mine for like 100..and was called out..but of course that was quite awhile ago….I made a price list containing average selling prices of CIB VB games in the last four months, and I largely calculated all of my prices based on eBay sold listings in the four months prior to April 23, 2013, and the average selling price of a CIB Insmouse no Yakata turned out to be $120.00, so I would say that $200.00 is on the high end.
I don’t need no list to tell me $200 is overcharging for Insmouse!
That being said, wow, nice list! I think we all needed an updated price guide. Can we get that posted to the homepage as a new article or something? I’m printing it out and putting it up on my bulletin board right now.
…And list all 33 separate games/versions, THATS how its done!
BTW, $1,331 for bowling on eBay yesterday! You almost NEVER see Bowling there, and just now a loose copy (Grossly overpriced even for VB) and a Boxed copy show up, nuts. and the price kinda went up… In the US at any rate, for people who probably aren’t ACTIVE members of our community (or do we actually know who bought it?)

They’re not quite identical… you can see that they modified the mold for the US version, to change the text “PLAYLINK” (on the JP systems) to “EXT.” (on the US systems).DogP
I actually checked my several Virtual Boy systems out after writing that, and only one of my Japanese units says “PLAYLINK” in that area. The other two Japanese units (one of which is the in-store demo system) say “EXT.” like the North American ones. Surprisingly, my North American demo system with a serial number under 1000 also says “EXT.” so I have no idea why some of the later systems had “PLAYLINK” and then they got rid of it.
wait, So they started as “EXT”, then went to “PLAYLINK” and then went back to EXT? does that mean there could be some US systems out there that say “PLAYLINK”?
Looking forward to my copy. Getting it with my copy of “space Pinball”
I’m gonna need a place to display and keep my collection soon.

Wish I could see the results without voting…hard to vote when you don’t have one 🙂
Yeah, I can’t vote either. Had I know it worked that way I would have posted three additional Options
“3D Display sign”
“Other display (like VB Arcade Machine 001)”
“I don’t have a display, but show me what the results are B!”

Guys just to let you know if you want to see the images in “3d” you only have to get a pair of Chromatek glasses http://chromatek.com/. That is if you only want to view them and you don’t care if you have the VB glasses.
I was gonna say, “aren’t those pretty generic glasses you can buy at museum gift shops or craft stores?” I know I had a pair when issue 75 first came out and gave them to a buddy so we could read the issue at the same time.
But then again, Its all about the Virtual Boy branding I suppose; like those knock-off raybands that said “Virtual Boy” on the side, I would have payed close to $40 bux for those given the chance.
Did you end up selling it?
What Pinball game?

Actually I throw away all of the instructions/box and mail in cards..i’d be up to 500 in no time 😛
I’d feel dismay about such a big waste of VB materials… If that game didn’t suck so much. I’m more inclined to Play virtual Lab again then that monotonous, sometimes impossible game.

Looks like he is at it again Mario Clash for 1,999$……
wow, I have a copy of that too! Anyone want to trade their copy of Virtual Bowling for my “ULTRA RARE” US version of Mario Clash?
That makes me wonder… Does anyone know why the Virtual Boy Cart connector is Pin based and not slot based (like all the Systems before it)? While the connection is probably more solid, Id be concerned with eventually bending one of the pins inside the VB unit itself. Then what?! Besides, all the cart based Nintendo systems after the VB (N64, GBA, etc) went back to slot loading cart. Some sort of experiment that failed?

How about the small Store Displays?
http://www.planetvb.com/modules/hardware/?type=displays&model=nintendo
Thats listed as the “Japanese Counter Display”
This brings up a good question that collectors must ask themselves: should the large Japanese store displays be regarded as different items than the large North American store displays, especially since they have very noticeable differences like the ad inserts? If so, then a completest would need more than just 4 store displays to complete his collection.
As for the larger displays, I thought the only difference between US and JP was the Ad flaps and some random txt around the unit itself. Are there actual physical differences? Or is it just like the “difference” between the Floor and Counter models where if you have both the Japanese and US flaps you basically have all the parts for both.
I still wish I had included the “Display Sign” as an option though. Are there a lot of you out there that only have the sign, no display stand?
BTW, you guys are actually voting in the poll as well as posting to the forum, right?

Necrobump, apparently!I’d say just go with an Oculus Rift: http://www.oculusvr.com/.
Yeah, I’m on board with the Oculus to be honest (work is already done, and looks far superior to anything we would coble together using cannibalized Nintendo consoles). For some reason this thread showed up at the top of the list when I entered the forum earlier. I posted a reply before noticing the conversation was from almost 9 years ago. Odd.

The problem with Japanese Vertical Force, or any Japanese CIB game for that matter, is that these games would not give the nice English inserts (English Precautions Booklet and Nintendo Power Subscription pamphlet) that have been coming with each new CIB release from the UncleTusker team. Thus, Virtual League Baseball truly is our only hope for these truly complete releases.
Good point, had not thought of that. While it wouldn’t be the end of the world not to have those with the repros I think its a really nice touch (I mean, why not?)
What becomes of all the left over Baseball Boxes and Instruction booklets? Do you have them flat packed, amassing in storage somewhere? It’d be hilarious to see them on ebay some day: “Virtual Boy Baseball Box and Instructions ONLY: lot of 300”
Benjamin Stevens wrote:
I actually believe that there are more copies of Virtual League Baseball in existence than there are Virtual Boy systems, but I don’t have any official numbers to go by. This may also be true for Mario’s Tennis carts, since every North American system had one packed in, plus there would have been many additional ones made and sent to Blockbuster for rental.
But what about the Japanese systems that didn’t come with a packed in game then? Surely that would even up the numbers. That and the Systems that Blockbuster had wouldn’t have “come” with Tennis then.
As for Baseball; just wow. Glad you guys got the connect you got since you’d probably end up spending a pretty penny more on… whats another abundant game we see cases of? I guess Japanese Vertical Force?
Get the screens from a Game Boy MICRO perhaps (smaller, but still back-lit). The Micro is in the lower right corner of the image, shown for size comparison.

Recently I’ve got back from Japan where my main goal was to get the remaining VB games that I needed. Thanks to the Mandrakes in Akihabara and Nakano Broadway I managed to pick up the stragglers, Virtual Bowling, SD Gundam and Virtual Labs. They were not cheap but I knew I needed to get them.
So are those the names of the stores you scored the games at? If you don’t mind me asking I have a friend out there now and she Is looking for VB games for me on Wednesday; If you could suggest some shops that would be great (if you had addresses that would be amazing). I’m trying to get Virtual Bowling, Gundam, and Virtual Lab for under $300 each (multiple copies if possible so I can make back the money here in the states and pay her for her trouble).
Additionally, What prices did you see on the Big four (when you saw them)?
Did you see any Copies of Insmouse by any chance? if so, was the price under 10,000¥?
wow, lot of questions, but I am very curious!

At that price I cannot imagine a loose cart selling, even if it is VB for the VB.

Where do you keep getting these Baseball Carts?Hopefully from a source who will not be found out by too many others, lest more deals be made and the supply runs out too quickly.
Oh yeah, I can only imagine what would happen if you guys lost your Source. We would probably have to default to some awful donor cart pre-order system (ugh). Its out of morbid curiosity because I’m a big fan of warehouse find stories (like the early 2000s Thundercats warehouse that toppled the market on some of the rarer figures, or the Cheetah Men II for NES find).
But… I must say I am also curious about how it came to be Baseball (one of only three third party US games). When I was originally buying VB games in the mid 90s (first run) I could NEVER find a US copy of baseball (to this day I’ve never physically seen it in a store; I bought mine on ebay in 1999), and when I stopped collecting in the early 2000s it still seemed like one of the slightly more difficult games to find. But now, upon my return in 2012 I find out its now almost as common as Mario Tennis (hell, or Japanese baseball)! what Happened? anyone mind shedding a little light?
Never made or used a Poll here before so I have some questions…
Is there any way for me to see stats before the end date? Can I change the end date? Can anyone even SEE the end date from their account? Will I get to see how many people Voted at the end?

I check Ebay every single day. They are either unwilling to ship to Canada or in very poor shape.
That sucks. If no one on the forum has any extras maybe you can get someone down here in the US to order one for you from ebay and then ship it up to you. Try asking the next time one shows up.
I speculate that there is probably some old video game store owner in Japan who isn’t even fully aware of all of his inventory stock, and if he would ever go through all of the boxes in his storage space, he will find an unopened 20-piece box of SD Gundam Dimension War or Virtual Bowling.
If he does, he may even then decide to put it up for auction just to get rid of the darn thing. (fingers crossed)
Yeah, isn’t that how Mak keeps scoring all those US Baseball carts (some insane amount of old stock someone had sitting about). Or Cheetah Men II for the NES a few years back years back.
