OK I’m gonna get flamed for this one, but as someone who was actually a child during the heyday of the 2600, I have to say that E.T. wasn’t actually that bad of a game…

Sure it wasn’t one of the best games, but it had (for it’s time) great sound and graphics, and the pits weren’t too horrible if you took your time getting out of them… as the exact person this game was marketed to, I can honestly say I enjoyed it more than some of the other games I had at the time.

Problem was Atari banked on EVERYONE wanting one and back then no one over 10 wanted to admit they played them. It was the equivalent of trying to promote a porno movie to the mainstream public.

If you ask me, Pac-Man for the 2600 was a much larger travesty and one of the worst games/ports ever… somehow they took the simple gameplay and graphics and screwed them up royally.. how hard would it have been to just make the maze black and blue ????

YESSS! I have now Insmouse! I won auction at ebay.com seller send from japan and it is brand new never used!! i paid only 61 US Dollar! Amazingly cheap if you ask me!!! I am sooo happy!

Congrats!

I have it, it’s a pretty cool game with some decent 3D, although don’t expect Doom quality graphics… reminds me more of Dungeon Keeper and/or Eye of the Beholder in it’s looks…

I got it for the irony… at the time Nintendo was at it’s most ‘wholesome’ with their standards… and they decided to release a Cthulu game on on one of their systems.

Someome in the Morality department was asleep at their desk that day.

Your Avatar… is that person on the Picture you?

Yes sir, that’s me!

What VirtualBoy said…

I am a techno-idiot, and using Dog’s info, I was able to bring back 3 virtual boys, one having the issue you are describing.

The process is easy as pie… hardest part is getting the tool to open the system in the first place!

Welcome to the Party Chris! (Hey that’s my name too!)

I’ve been doing quite a bit of collecting lately myself, and have to say you certainly got the right games to really show what the system was capable of.

Welcome again, and have to say that the group here is a really cool and dedicated group… I’m glad to have met them all.

Thanx for the post  I went out and picked it up right away. Great price

D’oh!

I’ve been looking for this game too!

🙁

You already got yours ? cool…whats it like ?

Well… it’s like Space Invaders, but in 3D! 😛

It’s got a ‘standard’ version which is your basic SI with a little 3D on the side panels, then the 3D version, which looks pretty wild. The Invaders and Ship are still 2d, but each line of invaders looks further away. The backgrounds look REALLY impressive in 3d though with the planet appearing very round, and the cityscape looking very cool with depth to the buildings, etc.

I didn’t play for too long though, as it is really Space Invaders… you’ve played it a million times. The 3D looks great when used (and even in 2D ‘original mode’ there is a subtle bit of it around the artwork on the sides, which is a nice touch and not distracting at all.

If you are a retro gaming fan (well you DO have a Virtual Boy) then it is worth it in my opinion if you can spare the $$$

FYI, the guy selling them is VERY impressive when it comes to shipping… I received the game from Japan THREE DAYS after making my PayPal payment, and it came wrapped up better then a newborn baby… I’ve had things shipped from 50 miles away that took longer!

Another Space Invaders Auction!

And it looks like it is the same seller who I bought mine off of a few weeks ago…

Looks like someone really IS sitting on a box of Space Invaders… 😉
One of you BETTER get this… it rocks!

Gotta go with the crowd on this one…

Flashboy or not, I would definitely buy a commercial version of the cart. It shows support for the developer (whoever that nutcase may be) 😉 and on top of that makes a very nice addition to the collection. As much as I love flash carts nothing beats having an original game in an original box!

(ps, just kidding about the nutcase thing.. don’t wanna wake up tomorrow and be banned) 😛

Well I have a spare Mario Tennis (or 2)

i am not sure how much it’d be for shipping, but i don’t think it’s profitable to send only two carts.

Well if it gets me a Flashboy faster the shipping pays for itself!

😛

I will certainly keep an eye open for bulk carts though!

Well I have a spare Mario Tennis (or 2)

Does donating bump me to the front of the line? 😛

Does it require Baseball, or can it be any other game as well?

Seems as if the same guy goes on ebay every now and again and sell’s them for 48 (buy it now..normally more then one available). But its from Japan so 60 with shipping. Still a great deal I think. He must have a box or two of them.

Hmmm He must have a big ole box cause I bought one from him as well last week at the same price…

Let’s buy them all up and maybe he’ll crack open that Virtual Bowling box sitting in the corner. 😛

I was looking at that space invaders up until the last 15 sec :).

So YOU’RE the one who made the price go up $100 in 10 seconds.. 😛

BTW as of last night I am the proud owner of a Space Invaders cart… any guess what I paid for it? 😉

Also, I ended up getting a copy of Jack Bros a few weeks ago for a pretty good price as well… Seems like there has been a large number of rarer Virtual Boy games on eBay in the last month or so… course haven’t seen the ‘Big Three’ yet… not that I can afford them at this time…

Although in a few weeks I am going to a local Gaming Convention that looks fairly large, so maybe I’ll get lucky there…

Anyone think this was a good deal?

Never Used (but opened) Space Invaders for $406

😛

I’m also a Mother fan, Nintendo will NEVER be willing to acknowledge anything more that at one point there was a sysem called Virtual Boy.
Nintendo will never admit that there is a strong Earthbound fanbase and they won’t do the same for Virtual Boy.

Hmmm, I would venture to guess that the quote above is actually quite the opposite…

I believe Nintendo truly loves the Virtual Boy for what it was.. granted it dies in the marketplace, which is something no company wants, but I honestly believe that Nintendo was, and to an extent, still is, quite proud of what they brought to the table with the Virtual Boy… it was (and still is) incredibly innovative, had some truly unique and fun games, and was overall a high quality item.

I think ultimately it’s failure lied in the fact that it was practically impossible to market. Too big for a (truly) portable system, to small and weak to be a new console, I think it died because the casual market had no idea what to do with it…

And I would have to say that you need look no further then the Wii lineup to see that Nintendo truly loved the Virtual Boy, some of the biggest 1st party games pay homage to the Virtual Boy…

Super Paper Mario – Francis the Nerd has one sitting on his shelf in what is my opinion, the best level of the game… massive fanboy service.

Super Smash Bros Brawl – Games and release dates listed right in the Chronicles area of the game.

Warioware – Hidden in sand in one for the games

I think it was a sore spot to them for a few years, but in the end I think Nintendo knows they had a great product, and they have paid respect to it the past few years…
