We really need to expand the range of systems that can play the VB games in a manner which makes sense.
Btw @Stereo, nice work with the GFX

I also believe that there is enough interest in a proper VB. Emulator.
The guy who startet the RedDragon port wrote a FAQ:
“Why would you make a Virtual Boy emulator? Nobody asked for it.

The 3DS is the perfect system to faithfully emulate the Virtual Boy. They have similar screen resolutions, the 3D effect is better and it’s actually portable.”

Well nobody asked for it is not true. 😉
The rest says everything. And to add, the 3DS is also a Nintendo machine so it is a good fit.

I checked last night and apparently GuyPerfect wanted to attemp a proper ARM version. I guess this is also needed to make it run full speed. According to what I read, he had outlined the full idea already. Unfortunately it seems something stopped him.

I guess people just need proper motivation.
A fundraiser could help and there are tons of people on GBATemp who are interested in a VB emulator and are waiting. SOme of them propably would support the cause if the project is properely setup and running.

I also checked ebay and buyee last night regarding VB items.
This is so ridiculous. You find not much on buyee because they think now it is a good ieda to put their shit on ebay. All overpriced as hell excluding shipping! They really ask 300-400 USD for a single Virtual boy. Game prices itself are also much more for common titles.

Once I had a full Collection except for Virtual Bowling. That was always to expensive. I do not even have a System anymore and even if I would like to get one, it is almost impossible now. If this happens to me I am sure it also happens to a ton of other people.
Something needs to be done 🙂

Well it turns out somebody started a VB emu already some time ago but as usual stopped halfway.

If I see this right, there is interest in a proper VB emu.

even if you can build in a SNES on a chip, the games would not be in 3D and the colors could be a real problem.
Also Hyper Fighting is no port of the SNES version.
It takes the GFX from the PC Engine version if I remember correctly.
Also the engine is a complete own thing and not anything from Street Fighter 2.

Many people are interested in this, maybe you need some help with this? The people here are always willing to help. 🙂

yeah, now I want to play the game 🙂

the videos are just mockups. For Dragon Hopper he used material from screen shoots it seems.
He propably does not have the real games.

I wish somebody would finally make or optimize a VB emulator for the (New) 3DS. The match would be perfect.
The screen of the 3DS is slightly bigger than the VB resolution.
That means no missing stuff on screen and no scaling needed.
Everybody would be finally able to play the VB games in the propper way. 3DS homebrew is widely adopted by now.

I know there is retroarch for 3DS which included mednafen VB but as far as I understand it plays with like 1 FPS. There must be more.

animals! 😀

$59.00 for shipping LOL!

Is there any chance to view the gfx in a Editor like Tilelayer Pro or Tilemolester?
Or are they compressed?

Yeah I looking for the Enemy Robot sprites.
These are not in there.
Would be very interesting to see them.

Are we talking about the fullversion of the game or about the demo? If it is the fullversion, I am in for one copy.

But why do you have trouble talking to the guy?
I tought it was Benjamin Stevens who hired a coder and paid for it?
Try talk to him?

Nice find! Now we need the game.

@LesterKnight ah cool, didnt know about it. But sadly the last update was in 2015 🙁
Also they always talk about fps but at how much fps the did VB run? I just read about 50Hz. Is 50Hz = 50fps?

@speedyink

The 3D effect on the VB never worked for me very good.
It was always more 2D for me. I have to say that I am shortsided on one eye. When the 3DS came out, I was very worried that I wont be able to see the 3D effect like on the VB. It was not the case. The 3D effect was very good even for me. With the new 3DS and the eye tracking, it got even better. When the 3DS was new, I created some 3D MPO pictures from several Virtual boy games in order to see how it would look like on a real 3DS. Already there I could see that it would work much better for me on 3DS.
The MPOs are here on the forum btw.
I am no programmer but if I would be one, that would be my project 😀 A good portion of the available VB games AND most of the impressive homebrew just deserve a proper and alternative way to be played and I think the 3DS is it.

Well they show the VB quite long and it is a important part of that sequence. They didnt try to hide the VB or anything but it is the first time that they show the VB that clear.
Also that sequence basicly shows how unconfortable the VB can be.
My guess is that we can expect VB Virtual Console on 3DS in the Future and I bet the will tell everybody how easy it is to play VB games on 3DS.

@danielps
thats a very cool project. Looking forward to see it done 🙂
I think the 3DS or at least the new 3DS should be able to handle VB emulation at full speed. The good thing is, that the VB Games library is very small and it should be easier to get all games to work.
Teleroboxer, red alarm or Wario should look great on that 3D screen.

About Nintendo, well they show or mention the VB quite often. You can get the VB in lost of games as a Trophy so I would say they did not ban the VB out of their side ^^
VB on virtual console however I belive that the will come out with such after we seeing it on homebrew first.
That would not very new.

“i wonder if they are using Alek Maul’s PVSnesLib?”

Well the coder on that project is Alek Maul himself.
So I guess he takes what he have 🙂

About the Lockout Chip, well this is not the first project of this kind. There seems a way. The Super Fighter Team is producing cards aswell.

The stretch goals, well tey are a neccessary evil of some kind.

I am very disapointed to be honest.
They made one of the best Games for the VB ever, doing some kind of secret very limited run of a production, some guys teasing it like hell but in the end we have nothing and not even a chance to buy a copy.

would be nice to get this game. Since this is based on the PC Engine version it is even more awesome ^^
