I got my first vb back in 2000, I think. I was in a pawn shop in a small town in texas. They had a whole shelf full of headsets shrinkwrapped with controllers for $10 (no stand, visor or battery pack). So I bought one. Then I got a selection of 10 common games for like $30 and a battery pack cheap from vglq, before they became scammers. I would just lay down to play it and keep the lights off so I didnt need a stand or visor. Later on I got a complete one off ebay for $50 with some games.
