As usual, I can’t praise the work done here enough. Many, many thanks for all the time and hard work done by everyone involved.
Another very high quality, top-notch release, and another great addition to the collection! Many thanks to KRI55E, Tusk, bigmak, Ben, MineStorm, and everyone else!
I requested a FB+ box from Benjamin Stevens (seeing that you’re also in the USA) not too long ago, and couldn’t have been happier with the transaction – he’s very good at keeping you up-to-date about when and how he’s shipping out the box, and everything I received was in top-notch condition.
Very trustworthy and recommended. It looks great on the shelf next to the other games. 🙂
I think I’ve actually got a spare US Jack Bros. cart kicking around… never bothered to try and sell it because I figured most would want it CIB. I’ll dig around and try to find it (although fair warning, I’m getting married this weekend so probably can’t get it to you very promptly). PM me if you’re interested and don’t mind waiting a bit, or I’ll get in touch with you after my honeymoon to see if you’ve scored it somewhere else. 🙂
I was pretty disappointed that the replacement VB unit I picked up off ebay recently, advertised as “working displays,” was in fact starting show signs of glitched displays right out of the box – very faintly, sure, but I know it’s just a matter of time. My original unit succumbed long ago.
My hands are unfortunately too jittery for me to risk attempting a solder fix on my own.
Thanks, bigmak, for keeping us informed. And one more resounding thanks to UncleTusker, MineStorm, Benjamin Stevens, thunderstruck, KR155E, and everyone else who’s helping to make these a reality – I’m really psyched to add some “new” games to the collection soon!
I wouldn’t go *too* wild with this – I really enjoy the consistency of being able to set the current reproduction boxes next to released games, and not be able to tell a difference “at a glance.” I wouldn’t mind a somewhat more pronounced indication on the back/bottom of the box, but I’d like to preserve the “clean” look of the fronts of Bound High/Space Pinball. After all, that’s what they’re designed for, right? To look like the official boxes.
I think most of the people who are big into VB collecting already have the display box. I don’t have a problem with repro-ing the box. But I’m not sure how much demand is for it.
This pretty much sums it up, I think. Much as I’d love to continue to support the VB repro scene, I wouldn’t have much use for a slightly modified version of something I already have on the shelf. Might be neat as an “alternate edition” or something, though.
Now, a repro of translated Gundam… That’s another matter entirely. 🙂
Just got mine as well. As with Bound High before it, I can’t say enough good things about this reproduction! Fantastic attention to detail by everyone involved. It’s really a delight to add it to the collection!
Oh wow… now I’m even more stoked to get mine! I ordered a FlashBoy+ from MineStorm a few days back, and he mentioned that it would come in a 3D-printed case (seems he’s low on donor carts), but I wasn’t sure what to expect until now. Looks incredible!!! 😀
I always just used the stand on a desk, but you’re all making me curious to try out other setups!
The “VB-playing” shoulder hunch is pretty much symmetrical to my day job “wtf is this code doing?” shoulder hunch, so I’ve never found it very uncomfortable or unnatural. 🙂
Super stoked for this. Thanks again to everyone involved in all the hard work to make this a reality. This community is full of incredibly dedicated and generous individuals.
I’ll second this, eBay Buyer Protection is incredibly helpful. I had a situation with an auction recently where the seller basically “took my money and ran” – no communication, never shipped my item, nothing. I sent him a couple messages through eBay, but when I got no response, I opened a case with eBay, and he had a week to respond to it – with a few hours to go on his deadline, he kicked it further up the chain to be reviewed. Within five minutes of that, the dispute was ruled in my favor and I had my refund.
Curiously, he had 100% positive feedback when the auction ended, but by the time this situation was resolved, mine was one of about six negatives on his record.
