Having a box and manual really makes a good package. Personally I’m happy with just carts so the rest is then a bonus.
Nice work fellas 🙂

BTW, Hedgetrimmer — has your wife discovered Krylon Glow Paint? It’s hard to get here; as soon as they re-stock it sells out! I sprayed a whole shirt with it, can’t tell any difference.

…until the lights go out!

Not heard of that, I’ll have to search some out and get her some to play with, thanks for the info 🙂

How rude of me, I didn’t thank you for posting the photos, those are great pics, thanks for sharing.
I hope you manage to get use out of it once our un-official link cable is released there should be some code to play with and you would be the only chap with the official cable.

Are we going to conform the “aftermarket cables” to this design? That would only make sense; “official” cables for “official” (err, homebrew?) linked games! 🙂

I will most likely copy the side clip design, mine just bends one side, that looks way better with a sort of bridge with a small lug.
For the rest it will probably stay as we have designed it, we spent some time on a logo, which looks rad, so I’d like to keep that but the overall shape is similar.
I’m not really up for copying it directly, this is a re-make so I see no reason to try and be identical, its purpose is to be used, so fit for function is the key, with a little eye candy if we can.

If the lugs are too big I’ll edit the model

I was referring to drunkencat’s model. Your’s fit’s OK.

Oh cool, pleased it fits.
I have just checked and I have all parts and features modelled, just took a stand apart and my model seems to be the same.
If anyone does spot a problem let me know and I’ll fix the model.

If the lugs are too big I’ll edit the model. I think I did miss an inner sleeve when exporting the other day, I think I modelled it but missed it was inside, I’ll check my models out in a bit and post the part in STL if I have it.

3D printing glow stuff, yeah that’s cool, my wife will instantly think of a thousand items I should model and print. I may well be in touch with you 3D printing fellas for a favour……:)

Few more models in STL, should be all needed to complete the top part, without the screw or the soft plastic washer.
Hope it works, be interested to see results.

I like the sound of a multi genre competition, bringing the community together, everyone celebrating VB together. Be good to see what type of entry’s would come of it.

Me too, no limit to what you want to enter, from a pencil sketch to a fully functioning 3D remake of Metroid….

I should get my VB modelling back on track and finish of the VB in 3D, oh well, there’s my task set for 2015. Best get on with it as the parts I have modelled have taken me since 2008…..

Runnerpack, fella those displays are like a work of art, superb work as ever amigo 🙂

Somebody send one to Hedgetrimmer so he can make a printable 3D model out of it! 🙂

Okay, that’s enough thread derailment out of me 😛

Do it, I’ll give it a go if anyone up for it 🙂

speaking of, how is progress coming along on your link cable?

I have been off this for a bit, my work load ramped up a crazy amount meaning I had no time for other projects and have struggled with this, but its not forgotten.
We are still tweaking the cable plug design, most likely now it will be 3D printed rather than moulded, and seeing this latest picture of the official cable I have some more tweaks to do.
PVB will be the first place to know when its ready.

now that is interesting, not only that its surfaced but to see how they have done the ‘click’ in location on the sides.
I might have to incorporate that into my link cable plug design.

I humbly apologize; I meant no offense. No one is currently making any, I didn’t see the harm in meeting some “minimum quantity” (if a company required it) by offering to split that minimum number with the members here, at cost.

vb-fan wrote:

I bet if a fab shop has minimums, you could have several parts printed and people here would buy some.

Perhaps I should have worded it “split the costs of a run between us”, implying zero profit.

Hope you forgive me. 🙂

Forgiven, thanks for the reply, I have no issue with anyone printing a qty and splitting costs etc hence releasing the model so anyone can make or get made themselves.

3D printing seems to be the only financially viable way of producing these, milling and machining takes too long = big price, molding = big investment in mold tool for not that many required.

Any pics anyone can take of parts they have had made I’m always interested in seeing.

If there are parts anyone needs and no model exists, if I have done a model you welcome to use it.

Minestorm (the genius making the “Flashboy” carts!) posted a computer model for printed clips, post 16:

If you dig a little deeper in the forum posts you would find the 3D CAD model was made by me, by all means print some for yourself but, vb-fan, not a good call to recommend selling them, its my work you’d be selling, not too cool.

if anyone does get more printed post some pics always good to see how these things turn out as 3D printing is improving all the time

Interesting, I wonder when they changed it, more internal webs should add strength, anyone got a cracked one of the newer type?

In 1995 being in the UK all we ever saw was articles in magazines, I wanted one and would have had to import and that would have cost a heap, with no job at the time and other things needing my monies it went to the recesses of my mind.
Then in 2008 my wife bought me one as a surprise, it sure was a surprise and also how good it was having seen pretty much nothing but derogatory remarks and reviews, and I’ve loved it since.

no way it looks like its in 3D perspective mode

HP Lovethrash, thats a top quick fix idea, like your style.

And while thats holding the fort they can order a medallion fix kit from me 🙂

Well done all involved, some top notch stuff going on.
Must admit my play time on each was a little restricted due to my spare VB suddenly not displaying at all, so my plan to play each one while at work for a full lunchtime session failed, and me being slack in getting the other one out a bit late, like Saturday night, meant banging through these to try and give an honest score.
However the rankings turned out it does not detract from the excellent work across the board, I thank you all for increasing the VB library a little more.

Cool, that seems to work, be interesting to see how it holds up with other print methods.
