Ok I’m done with the screw driver, I tried a few more times on one of the screws and there is just no way its going to work on the deep ones. Infact it may have completely stripped one of them 🙁 looking down the hole with a flash light it looks pretty beat up, I’m not going to touch any of the remaining screws till I get my bit. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do in the event the screw is to worn for the bit to grip? I’m at a total loss on what to do in the event that it is. Short of cutting out section of plastic the screw is holding in I’m absolutely clueless on what to do.
The problem I’m having is not loosening them but getting my screw driver in the notches. it works perfectly on the screws I can see. But the screw driver keeps slipping off on the deep ones as I can only ever seem to get it lined up with a single notch, when I turn it all it seems to be doing is damaging the surrounding plastic and also possible the screw itself.
Thanks, just ordered one. I don’t plan on keeping the security screws, I plan on replacing them with hex screws if I can find some with the appropriate pitch as those are nearly impossible to strip.
Damn thats a bummer Steve. :/ Hopefully he’ll find time to do both ours sooner then later. Or… I wonder what the shipping cost would be to send it to TheForce81 in the Netherlands, I’m guessing its a scary number.
Haha yeah it definitely will be, I’ve ordered enough things from all over the world to know how much more expensive shipping can be, ordered a book from the UK last year where the shipping was 2x the cost of the book. 😛 I fired off an email to Johnny Phantom, hopefully I hear back from him soon. 🙂
Does anyone have any experience with this guys repair service? I just came across it and it so far sounds like my best bet since I lack the skills do do a permanent fix nor do I know anybody whom does. Can anyone attest to the quality of this guys repairs? http://www.johnnyphantom.me/Johnny_Phantom/Virtual_Boy_Repair.html
Thats nice to know that its not something more serious. I was reading up on all the methods posted on this site to fix the probelm, its disheartening to know how difficult your permanent fix appears to be, especially since I have no where near the soldering experience nor equipment needed to do so. How long does the oven fix usually work for?
Thats awesome! How much do they cost? I have very little extra money to spend at the moment so unless they are cheap, which I’d imagine they are not, then there is no way I can afford on right now or for a while. How often does he make new ones?
Thanks for the suggestions, I plan on trying to get as many of the games as possible I meant suggestions on order. What is a flash boy?
Out of curiosity, two of my games didn’t come with the black dust caps, how necessary are they to keeping the contacts clean? / Do you know were I might be able to buy some extras?
