I think VR is a bigger deal than Kinect. Imagine playing Mario Kart, but actually being in the game! Want to see if there’s a red shell coming? Just turn your head! 😀 To me this seems more similar to Wii than Kinect. Wii was Nintendo’s best selling home console. To me at least, the “gimmick” never wore off. I still think playing with a Wii remote and Nunchuk is really innovative and fun. And like Arvester said, the reason 3DS sells is because of buttons, dual screens and 3D. Soon it’ll take more of an edge to compete with phones. VR seems like the solution to me.
That controller patent looks kinda cool. I wonder what Nintendo’s planning..
You’re right thunderstruck, I was just basing that on how things were going back in the time of the price drop but I guess Nintendo caught back up. Is Kinect really a failure?
Hmm… So the only real solution is remaking the chip itself. I’m not sure, but I think silicon processors are expensive to produce in low quantities. Like I’ve said before, the folks over at 3dbrew.org were trying to decap the 3ds SoC. They started a fundraiser for it, so it must not be cheap. Whether the PVB community could do that kind of thing I don’t know, but after that all there would be left to do would be copying the circuit into a computer.

Perhaps not your exact words but when you said it could be done with an FPGA it made it sound easier than I though it was.
Although the V810 is no longer produced (I only know of 2 devices that used it), it is a MIPS processor, right? So there’s probably a modern processor that would be compatible. The plus side to that is extra processing power for homebrew.
And about the custom instructions issue, perhaps just running the CPU faster to compensate for the interrupts? The only other solution to that seems to be making our own CPU. How much does it cost to make silicon chips?
I would use mednafen, I just don’t believe in multi-system emus. They’re always best at emulating one console, and I’d rather use different emus for the other ones. Plus it doesn’t have a gui.
I’m just using it to make music. It’s too bad none of the emulators available have good sound emulation. Maybe someone could combine the virtual boy sound generator with one of the available emus.
It worked! The output file plays a rudimentary rendering of King Dedede’s theme (That could be just because I only tested it in Mednafen and RB). This is cool. Now I just need to find the VB emu with the most accurate sound emulation. Nice artwork in the MIDI player, BTW. I love that show!
Holy crap! The sound samples from that other topic are amazing! Can that be done on other systems, say, Game Boy? That’d be cool. My original question though, was about the homebrew title MIDI Music Player. I wanted to know how to change the MIDI file that it plays.
This is easier than you all think. The SONY Personal 3D Viewer is a wearable 3D, HD display. Just plug this into a PC and run your favorite VB emulator.
I’m really glad they’re considering that at all! Every time I buy a virtual console game on my 3DS, I take the Club Nintendo survey and ask for VB on 3DS! Even if they don’t do it, 3DS jailbreaking will be possible soon. The guys at 3dbrew.org are going to decap the 3DS SoC, which has the encryption keys necessary for jailbreaking. Then someone could port Mednafen!
