Two copies, so that you can use the two player function maybe?
Yes indeed in my case, as I’m lucky enough to have two JP Virtual Boys (one mosaic) that do get played and enjoyed especially when friends come over. Add that the VB was never released over here of course, let alone SF2.
SF2 is also my favourite game on the planet – I pretty much own every main version of it – including the arcade board, the JP Hyper SF2 Collectors Edition, a special MegaDrive custom ROM cart, and some other stuff like the original styleguide for SF2 licensing way back which is an amazing piece of literature and a great resource piece.
So just to clarify – none of this eBay nonsense, I’ve been here long enough to hope I’m reasonably well trusted. I also want to make a custom box that is like a Collector’s Edition of sorts, if I can. I think that would be cool to see.
I’m genuinely surprised that was a natural bid – Yamatoku are notorious for shill bidding, but that would explain why there aren’t tens of bid retractions on your account, like there usually is 🙂
But it does make me wonder, why not just snipe the item in the end, if you wanted to snag it? If no-one else had bid over $500 you could have gotten it for less, assuming Yamatoku didn’t shill bid.
I would say it’s value IMO is essentially as an official test cart.
I see they have a. I have the GBA, GB, GBC, and NDS (NOJ) flashcarts.
But I don’t feel the cost is justified either… In fact I’d say VB collector item prices are way higher than even NES – because of the scarcity and the fact you main guys seem to be happy to pay a lot for things.
Wasn’t sure what a good price is for the game in today’s market, but I can definitely recommend him as a seller, I’ve bought various Famicom items from him for the last ten years now. He’s approachable.

It would be cool if we could make a minimum donation to the person who ported it to the VB, to support future projects. All donors would be awarded the honor of being a recipient of a shared version of the game. I wonder if it matters how the file is shared, weather the medium be a physical cartridge or a digital file.
But reading the above – isn’t that the whole point of the public demo? You can play the shared version of the game as a digital file, if you have a Flashboy which I think I saw in another thread you do.
You don’t get to play with all characters, but you can see first hand with your own eyes how good the 3D is that way and the crisp display. As for the full game that doesn’t fit on the Flashboy, well it’s Street Fighter 2, there are many platforms to play it.
Best thing about that is that you’re not beholden to a donation if you don’t want to, you just need a Flashboy to check it out.
Not to break thread – but I also have a similar story that I discussed with Krisse some years back.
Codemasters (UK developer & publisher) also had a VB that they were working with to create a Micro Machines VB game. I spoke with someone from the team back then that saw this, but it is going back many years and was very early.
Again, this game project didn’t get very far, the project was begun and some playable tests created, but cancelled when they felt the hardware didn’t really support what they would have loved to do with the game.
I also have a MegaDrive board of a second cancelled project which reached playable status. That project eventually became Micro Maniacs on PlayStation (one).
The VB cancelled game and the MD cancelled game I think were separate entities, but both are adaptations of what a 3D Micro Machines game might have looked like on 2D-based hardware.
Thanks for posting and confirming everything Mawa, it’s really appreciated. As I said before, I would offer to buy the loose VB if you didn’t find the need to keep it, not sure what was paid in the end but I hope you don’t regret the purchase too much if at all.
Nice to have some resolution to this contentious and controversial topic.
