No problem! I am just providing feedback based on my eBay observations. My local game shop has 2 VB’s right now and he wants $500 per system (w/o AC adapter). Sometimes you can bank on nostalgia.

I often see working systems (with everything you mentioned) sell between $120-200.

The price gap was much closer about 10 years ago. You could find everything you listed for around $100. Within the last 5 years I’ve noticed a price jump.

These are the prices I often seen on eBay for loose VB carts:
Wario Land sells for $10-30
Galactic Pinball sells for $10-20
Mario Tennis sells for $5-20
Vertical Force sells for $10-30
Panic Bomber sells for $10-30
Teleroboxer sells for $15-30

A fixed system is a plus. The AC adapter is a plus. 6 games is a plus! A brand new stand is a plus! If you represent it honestly, as you have done here, I think you could expect to get between $175-250. If you find the right gamer, perhaps even close to $300.

Hello. How was it fixed? (Solder, tape, baking, replacement parts, etc) Do you have a working controller and the eye shade? Does your system have the box & manual? Do your games have their box & manual?

Hello.
I’ve recently been informed that Kevin’s VB Cart Programmer can successfully dump the Hyper Fighter ROM. It would seem that with this piece of custom hardware, this project would be extremely easy to complete.

If anyone can help me out who is either within an hours drive of me (doubtful — reads like 25 of these may exist) or willing to send me their programmer… I would like to dump my ROM.

If you think you can help, please PM to start a discussion.

Sorry, but I am even more confused now. Your e-mail asked about the FB (FlashBoy) and I was curious about the FB+ (FlashBoy Plus). After poking around the cart’s dedicated thread, it appears the last few to post that mention receiving one did so in December of 2017 (so about 2 years ago). I am going to assume Richard was responding generically by grouping the FB and FB+ together.

With Flashboy no longer being produced

Hello, can you link to somewhere where Richard has said he is no longer making them? I am asking because the last thing I read he said he was still making them, however, his donor sources have been depleted and he was asking for donors + cost for a FB+.

Hi. I’ve never built a stand of any kind and will often play my VB for hours without any back or neck pain. I’ve always found that having an adjustable chair helps a lot. When one is not available, a few sturdy books work great. These days you can find a few books at any Thrift Store or Library sale for under $5. Old text books or outdated encyclopedias are always cheap and sturdy.

What I have always wanted to do is pick up a cheap drum cymbal stand and convert it for the VB. I’ve just never come across one for the right price. I think this would be most ideal because you could sit in a comfy chair and adjust the VB for you, and not the other way around!

@Johnny Phantom: The one thing that sticks out from your posts is your dedication to your life, which leaves you with very little free time. I was curious, would you ever consider passing everything on to someone who has the time to complete this project?

While I am not the developer and have no say in his final decision, I would also like to add that having to flip hardware switches or re-connect the cart to the computer to select new games, seems like a step backwards. It sounds much less efficient and time consuming than having to re-flash the FB/FB+.

As stated above, HF is just too large to fit on the current FB+ design. Even it was dumped. With that said… If anyone has a simple plug-n-play Windows compatible hardware to dump the HF ROM (that would function correctly the 1st time — I’ve no wish to make a project of this) and would like to make it available, I would be more than happy to dump and release my cart. It’s been long enough.

Hello. Hyperkin sells a replacement stand with the clip on-top for an MSRP of 29.99. https://www.hyperkin.com/virtual-boy-replacement-stand-repairbox.html

A quick Google search should give you a site (Amazon, Walmart, StoneAgeGamer, etc) where you can get one!

I own #13 and I paid under $100 for it.

This is everything: https://www.planetvb.com/modules/usercenter/uploads/1584_1.jpg minus the mini-USB cable that would have been included in the box.

To clarify on the “FB+” and boxes topic:

Back when I was making them, the first 100 or so units of FlashBoy Plus came CIB and in official cartridge shells. Like the original FlashBoy, but in an updated box.

That is a part of it’s history I did not know. My understanding was that they were always sold as two separate purchases. Thank you for clearing that up!

Hi. The FB+ was never released CIB. However, a box was created and offered separately. The first 3D printed shells were done in red and those were made about 6 years ago. Before that, the FB and FB+ was housed in an official VB cartridge shell.

Cheers!

If you don’t want any spoilers but would like to play the padded ROM… Post 19 has it attached. Just log-in, click, scroll (don’t read spoilers), and you should be good. =)

There were a lot of VB boxed games out of Mexico that appeared on eBay about 2 years ago that also had printed instructions. When I contacted the seller, he told me that this was how the games came in Mexico. I’ve no idea if this is true or what the state of VB games was like in 1995 Mexico. Perhaps, this is a possibility?

Cheers.

Hi. Welcome. If you have a working VB, my first bit of advice would be to pick up a FlashBoy+. With it you can enjoy translations, hacks, homebrew, and of course the entire VB ROM library. It’s a great way to test things out before deciding which actual carts you must own!

I recommend that you give this article a read. It’s pretty much the 101 for VB history! =)

You found a great community. Cheers and have fun!

Hi.

I am by no means an expert on the VB, however, for a time I was watching eBay almost daily. What I can tell you is that I often see damaged units (usually just requiring soldering) with no games and often no controller/stand, for around $30-50 (with shipping). Your value will be in the complete package, and especially in your games, the eye shade, and the stand (if it is 100% complete). If you sell it to someone from this site, you will most likely be giving it a good home.

Cheers and good luck!

This might be the part where it’s a good idea to explain that the game is a satire on the Yume Nikki fan game concept; it’s a joke. Only one of the effects has a function (aside from opening a door), and the bike deliberately does not speed you up. The deeper meaning is simply what’s on the surface. Delicious.

Hi. Having no context for the game or its character, I was really confused if I had reached the ending or not. Thank you for your explanation!

Hi.
So, I got to a screen that said FIN after Nina jumped to what seemed like her death? Is this the ending?

I collected a bunch of items (pizza server, 3d glasses, a bike, a manga) but none of them seemed to do anything. The manga got me through a door, but I found nothing useful inside. The bike said it would make me go faster, but did not. I’m confused…

Is the point of the game to collect the items and then to make that jump or am I missing out on something?

I also wanted to ask, are there plans to add music or sound effects? I feel like both would greatly enhance the game.

I hope no one minds that I have attached a padded copy of the 7.19.19 ROM to this post. It was padded using method #3 with the default size (21 – 2MB) and has been confirmed to boot on actual hardware.

Thanks!
