Either that, or we could buy the cart itself as we did with Bound High!

thanks to the recent sale of bound high on ebay, there will be no more reproduction carts made by richard. sadly, this would probably never happen.

i never searched for it. i found out about it when someone asked me if it was something rare. when i saw it i was upset but not shocked. we all knew it would happen. i don’t hate the guy who sold it. i do feel he did not stop to consider how this might impact the close-nit VB community. he has disrespected richard’s wishes and damaged the future of prototype/patched/translated/rare reproduction carts. not to mention 1-off builds of battery supported games that would have featured a cage instead of solder points. it sucks, it really does, the guy is a complete jerk for doing what he did, but i don’t hate him.

this is really interesting. i had not expected to see this posted. what an interesting week it has been for vb discussions. i can not wait to see what you will post in the future.

knowing that it is out there gives me hope that one day everyone will be able to enjoy it.

thanks for sharing!

i am unfamiliar with the GP demo. what is different about it?

what is the point of doing that? richard already said he will not make more retail game reproductions. does everyone think that it would be some type of small victory to get the buyer to return it? the seller would just list it again some where else. the buyer would probably get upset to find out that he could have traded 3 donor carts for one, and after reading that richard will no longer make them he will realize that he has something rare and probably keep it or resell it.

either way, richard isn’t making them any longer. it won’t matter if it gets returned or not. the damage is already done.

I will not be making anymore repros of commercial games.

i just found out about this. i just watched the auction end. it seems ebay didn’t pull or and probably cared less about what it was.

i am really upset about this. i love my bound high cart. it is such a fun game and its so cool to have a stand alone. you made it clear that the only real constraint was that they were for the community and that no one was to sell it. seemed like a really simply request, and someone had to go and mess it up for everyone.

as much as i respect your opinion, i hope in time that it may change. your reproduction carts bring so much joy to those of us who treasure this video game system.

when i hold a really bright light up to the lense i can see imperfections in the plastic. i don’t see dirt, dust, or anything like that. i do not know if there is a way to fix it. you problem could be dirt or dust, so try carefully cleaning the outside. i would recommend a 100% cotton t-shirt. do not use anything like paper towels or tissue as those are made with wood fiber. you can also clean dirt on the inside but you would need to take the vb apart.

i do believe only a homebrew supported that. there are instructions on how to build the cable. we talked about building them and selling them here, but i don’t know what became of that idea.

i have two black lines in my right eye that i can notice on backgrounds with lots of red. i see it in wario ware, during the intro of panic bomber, and others. the lines move as i move my head/eyes. if i back away they get smaller, if i move closer they get larger. i’ve come to the determination that they are on the red plastic lenses.

does this describe what you are experiencing?

try some compressed air in the slot and around the contacts of the carts. once its cleaned keep a cart in the slot at all times, its the only way to really keep dust out.

awesome!

don’t quote me on this next statement because i can’t really recall clearly, but i think the sega master system plug will work as well as the original NES plug.

i’m sure someone will be along shortly to correct me if i am wrong.

was your mario tennis game the japanese release? i have one of those, which oddly enough came as the donor cart with my flashboy+ box!

i do not want to derail this discussion but i did want to comment on the final polish.

Yeah, some of the songs are not perfect. Some of the high pitches can’t be played by the VB. Also the converter does only allow to convert one track of the midi. That’s why some nodes are missing. As the VB can play several tracks it would be possible to change this though. Also the nodes don’t fade in and out. I tried to do that but somehow didn’t get it to work. Finally some songs are played a little bit to slow. This is caused by the fact that the timing for the nodes is not done with interrupts.

it seems that you know exactly what is missing from your first game. adding these things would be the polish that the game deserves. none of us are in a hurry for a cart. i think many of us would really enjoy it if you were able fix up the game and add that final polish. however, everyone understands if your heart simply isn’t in it. i think all of us have reached a point at one time or another where we felt it was time to move on to a different project.

1 Entex Adventure Vision

have you actually played with the adventure vision or do you just like what the system was? the games were OK but the experience is not very fun. the screen tends to adjust it self a lot. its usually only sought after by collectors because of how fragile and rare the system is.

in no particular order:
NES, Apple II, Vectex, Atari 5200, commodore 64.

the problem is that video game writers like to consider the way the vb was marketed and then associate that against its lack of sales and limited run. it wasn’t the worst console by a long shot. in my opinion it was incorrectly marketed for something it wasn’t (a console, instead of a niche gaming toy), and pulled before developers really understood what they could do with the hardware.

do you have the part number for that ikea lamp? any instructions for exactly what you did?

i see broken systems sell for under $15 all the time.

here is one now that is at 1.99 with 1 hr to go: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Virtual-Boy-Game-Console-for-Parts-or-Repair-/290767807311?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43b31ca34f

hours later and no way to edit my post….

the virtual boy pin is back. they are asking $250 buy-it-now or b/o. they have it listed as from 2004 E3, is that correct?

if there were real benefits to this, namely emulation or homebrew, i would be willing join in on a donation. but with that said, what would you hope would be accomplished? do you want vb games to run faster? it is an interesting idea but just to say “i did it” isn’t something i am interesting in donating towards.
