In the future…………Cool now that’s what I’m talkin about. 😉

Guys Thanks for all of your help. I went to the Spriters Resource and found the answers to my questions. But seeing all of the sprites ripped from other games leads me to a greater question. In the far future not now too busy with life and the game that I’m commited to now. But in the future is it possible to use those sprites and give credit(while I was there I read the terms and conditions) to create our own V.B. Zelda, CastleVania,Metroid and other games. I mean the sprites are just there for the taking and I’ve found sites that have the Music to these wonderful games. I know a little about tilesets and pixel edited graphics and I’m sure on all of PVB somebody works with music. Is it possible to remake the classics(We could write our own stories and add our own graphics and music) on Virtual Boy!

Thanks guys,
this looks like a good springboard.

So once you assign the color pallete can you change it per sprite, or is it only for the whole image. For example can you have a sprite with 2 shades of red and black and a scrolling background with one shade of black and 3 shades of red?

Well guys here’s the final version I probably will not change it unless there are some real problems. If you notice I avoided the issue of rhyming with Gunpei and Yokoi all together. Anyway I hope you like the new imagery.

Virtual Renaissance

Come and see look inside,
The fate of it’s darkest secret they cannot hide.
Listen closely and I will tell,
About a breakthrough concept that wouldn’t sell.
See this system it’s face to yours,
Peer inside a 3d door
The “screen” appears with darkness fading,
Read the Instructions before operating.
It’s fate is sad as you will soon see,
Adjust your focus and IPD.
Its father RTI it’s mother Nintendo,
But the fate of this hardware was one sad crescendo!
Gunpei Yokoi was the matchmaker,
If the project should fail he was the risk taker.
What should of ussured in a new time,
Was seen as a freak a faulty design.
Not a Metroid nor Zelda nor Mario,
Was packed in its launch when they let it go.
Between SNES betwixt 64,
Big N wanted cash and they wanted more.
It was launched with only just a handful of games,
They thought just it’s concept would bring them fortune and fame.
The company heads wanted games from the best companies,
But that proved to be a fatal strategy.
Across the Sea yet it was launched,
The Yen was so few to the big N still haunts.
Neck aches and head aches and red and black look,
So was the fate not reading the instruction book.
The audience wondered why the couldn’t see 3d
But none of them thought what the heck Is the IPD!
So it was then launched on American Shores.
The worst Launch in history for Uncle Sam’s stores.
The Commercials were running the prices were dropping,
Nintendo’s profits took quite a chopping.
But let’s not let this great system die,
Let’s launch it again with D-Hopper and Bound High.
But before it could reach greatness before a fair try.
They pulled the plug and then watched it die.
And even though Gunpei Yokoi was the mastermind
When this system failed he was left behind.
He took it hard when the system got robbed,
He lost his position and then lost his job.
But his genius and legacy we will always honor.
But to Nintendo he was a goner.
The system died without much cause,
Placed in the cemetery of gaming…Automatic pause.
But there were some not really a few,
That saw 3d gaming as really something new.
These were the ones that saw it’s potential,
And knew that stereoptic games was fun exponential.
So Silently they worked with their Virtual boy.
They toiled and programmed and were not annoyed.
Till the millennium dawned and were given a place,
To voice their findings through cyberspace.
Then one day a flash cartridge was born,
The dark day was ended the break of the morn.
It gave us hope it gave us joy.
The greatest triumph from it’s death was called the Flash Boy.
It entered The gamming cemetery full of gloom,
And went before V.B.’s lonely tomb.
“Unto death”( it spoke) you are no longer a slave.
The flash boy exclaimed;” arise from your grave,
And oscillate your mirrors once more,
And let LEDs flash as never before.”
Then we all knew that the system was back,
The king of 3d V.B. red and black!

I recommend using Pro Motion 6 by cosmigo http://www.cosmigo.com/promotion/index.php it is Deluxe Paint for the new millennium. It is strictly a pixel editor so you really are not going to be able to do modern image manipulating with it but for pixel editing it rocks. It’s set up specifically to do sprites and tilesets to make drawing theese kind of games a breeze. Unfortunately I haven’t bought it because I can’t spare the cash right now but I’ve used the demo and it is on my list of must haves!

Ok,
I’m sorry I asked how to pronounce it and I got a response which I thought it was right. It’s obvious that you know more about how to pronounce his name than I do so I’ll try my best to correct it. Meanwhile I do have a couple of new verses that I want to add that I know will rhyme, I’ll keep you posted when I write my final draft.

Ok gang, here’s the new poem that includes a few verses on Gunpei Yokoi. Let me know if you like it.

Thanks for the pronunciation Ill work on updating the poem paying my respects to Mr. Yokoi. BTW that is a seriously scary palindrome guys. But at least it will help me with remembering how to spell oscillate.

Thanks guys, hey since you read it do you think I should add something about Gunpei Yokoi. I wanted to but I couldn’t figure out how to pronounce his name. As you probably have figured you can’t rhyme what you cannot pronounce. Anyway thank you for your compliments. And as far as the spelling of oscillate I can’t believe that spell check missed that one well thank you for your insight. I should also thank KRI55E for reviewing it first, thanks.

Thanks I’ll have to give that a try too.

Thanks Benjamin Stevens I don’t think I would of ever figured it out.

On Youtube Iv’e actually seen a demo for Links Awakening for the VB is it a hoax or is someone working on it?

Has anyone ever played Legacy of the Wizard? Now that was an original concept for it’s time.

Hey guys I watched a documentery on Insects today. It seems that a preying mantis eats the head of it’s victim first then digests the body. So I got to thinking mabe if the head and intersection of the torso could be danger points to quickly finish your opponent. The life bar could be for the overall health of your opponent, but multiple strikes in the face could rip off it’s head or multiple hits where the insect is segmented could dis-embowel the insect. I normally don’t like games like Mortal Kombat but to me this would be like really fighting in nature we’ll have to see what the etemologist thinks about these ideas though. 😉

the shoulder buttons could act as action buttons. Forward on the left D-pad and up on the right D pad could cause your insect to rear up on its back legs, the shoulder button could cause it to strike forward. But if only the shoulder buttons were pressed the insect would jump with all of it’s legs it’s like the shoulder button causes it to preform the movement pre-determained by the two D-pads working together.another example would be pressing the forward on the left D-pad and backward on the right D-pad causing the insect to rear up on it’s hind legs and block.
Also since there are no copyrights I think it would be cool if there was a fatality system simular to eternal champions the fatalities could be triggered by the backgrounds for example a stage where an ant lion is in the background among hills like in Actraiser. and another stage where you are jumping among llilypads and frogs are in the background waiting to devour the loser also I think because it is an incect combat game there should be a secret stage that is a picnic anyway just some thoughts 💡

Thanks Kri55e I appricate your help and Ill be sure to ask for more help when needed thanks again
Sincerely,
Morintari 🙂

Just an Idea before you get to programming the movement for the characters I think it would be a cool idea because incects are segmented to work with two directional pads one for the front part and the other for the back part and you do a number of fighting moves using this control scheme let me know what you think

Hello Runnerpack,
I need once again to apologize for proper etiquette. As you can read from my profile that I am a newbie (even though Ive been refering to PVB for at least 2 years now). I did not know about private messages and I still don’t know how to send one (Heck I still haven’t figured out how to change my profile image yet). As far as sending it on the Incect Combat thread that was I was in a hurry and I did’nt have time to read all of the posts (some of them saying that he’s looking for artists for sprite editing. I should of read all of the posts then posted a comment but I didn’t. As far as starting a new thread I just wanted him to see that I wanted to create original graphics for him. I want to contribute to Planet Virtual Boy, and I can’t through programming. So I want to contribute the only way I can through art.

Morintari again,
I never said that there was anything wrong with the homebrew, it’s just hard for some of us that arn’t that savvy with Gorrilla glue and an X-acto knife. Anyway I contacted Alberto and he said it is possible to view the Wii on the VB using VEGL. The only problem is that the rendering is slow and He’s tryed compression techniques and he can’t seem to speed it up enough to play. So I e-mailed him and asked if it’s possible to play a game in wireframe to speed up the rendering. it will be interesting what he has to say. I also asked him is it possible to make an accessory like the Flashboy that plugs into the VB like a gamepak and through usb interface provides straight bandwith to the VB instead of going the route of the link cable? Ill keep you posted.
