Now that we’ve given the people that helped out/entered the compo a reward, how would everyone feel if we made a multi-cart for everyone else to enjoy ?

If the contestants want too…they could update their code..add stuff on if they feel like. MK could make a different demo program if he wants.. and we could make a multi-cart available to everyone.

We could even give each person 2 dollars per cart sold..or they could donate that amount to planetvb for server costs.

Just a thought…discuss please 🙂

I for one, love the idea of this sort of thing being available to others to buy as well. If this is something that can be done,

for my Everdrive N8 I ordered.

Clean the NES connector before you plug in the N8. Dirty contacts or old/bent pins are the #1 cause of issues on Krikzz forum.

Grab a GoodNES or No-Intro set. There are so many dumps floating around and Krikzz does all his testing with GoodNES verified ROMs. Many users swear by No-Intro, which is why I mentioned it.

Good to know. My husband and I cleaned out the connector real well when we brought home the console and we’ve been playing with our friend’s PowerPak and the California Games I just picked up. I have the full NES/Famicom rom set but if mine don’t work with the N8, I can always use the ones you used.

I have the Everdrive GB and I friggin love the thing. I definitely want to get the SNES one next and bring home my SNES and my PS2, XBOX, and Atari 2600. Not sure what got into my husband but he’s been begging me to bring home the consoles from my dad’s so I gotta do this before he changes his mind haha.

My husband is buying me an Oculus Rift for my birthday on Monday. I’m pretty excited to experience the VB emulator (at least until I get Flashboy). I’m a fan of those horror games everyone plays so that was one of my main things for wanting it but this gave me another reason to be anxious for my gift. I will report back on how I feel about it once I get it and everything.

Cool… I’d love to make it up for one of the NAVA gatherings, but I don’t go through NY/NJ very often, and have never been near there during a gathering. 🙁 I know a lot of the Digital Press people from Classic Gaming Expo… they’re really cool, and they’ve got a nice store.

Funny enough, I also picked up a California Games when I was there… except it was for the Sega Master System.

This was my first one. Had it not been for a fellow retro gamer friend of mine telling me I wouldn’t have known. I’ve gone to the store a couple times before to purchase some games and misc accessories and they have a really good selection. Sometimes the prices can be a bit high but they are a business and need to make their money. One thing I wish they did was sell broken consoles they get in trade or spare parts. That would make my life so much easier than having to order everything online. I’d even pay the higher price on things too just for the convenience.

California Games is definitely superior on the Master System hands down (and I’m a hardcore Ninty fangirl)

Should have told the manager about a certain guy you know who’s handy with a soldering iron… 😉

BTW, nice “unintentional selfie” in the infinity mirror 😀

Haha I totally should have! They do repairs in house but not sure if they would bother fixing VB displays. Lol yeah that’s about as close as I get to taking selfies. By the way, I sent out the displays a couple days ago. You should get them Monday I believe.

Sorry to hear about your health issue (get well soon!) but even if you were well, it’s no big deal that you haven’t had time to send them. Although, it seems like that good-for-nothin’ husband of yours could take them to the P.O. for you, especially since (IIRC) they’re already packed up 😉

Yours are in a slightly different boat than these were, but I think they have at least some chance of pulling through. Maybe it would be a good idea to post “before and after” photos in the VG thread to let people know just how close to the brink these things can come and still be brought back to full, working order. We might save some VBs that are assumed to be “unfixable” by their owners.

I’m better now for the most part, thanks 🙂

In all fairness my husband was sick with the sam crap I had so we were both pretty useless for a couple weeks lol.

I like the idea of the before and after pics on the displays. I think you’re right that so many people give up on ones that still are holding onto life just enough to be brought back.

I get asked this a lot by my fellow gamer buddies because none of them can ever figure out what the VB’s deal was. It was like a console with an identity crisis in a way. I always saw the Virtual Boy (or Girl lol) as a successor to the Gameboys much in the way the DS systems were a successor. Even though the DS line is a different system from the Gameboy entirely, it still holds so many similarities and owes itself to the it and Game & Watch systems much like the VB and Gameboy.

I feel the Virtual Boy tried to use a similar formula to the Gameboy when it came to its own games- in that they should be a somewhat short burst of good fun while on the go. Due to the limitations at the time restricting how small they could make the system, it’s easy to see why many people would bunch it with home consoles though. I mean, let’s be honest there weren’t many people playing this on long car rides like we did with Gameboys and the amount of batteries needed to keep the beast alive was more than the Sega GameGear (and that at least had a lit color screen). More than half the time players were probably tethered to a wall via the AC adapter/power pack which unofficially made it a home console to many.

Regardless of its “flaws” I love my VB and VG though. 🙂

Kudos on the shoulder strap! I couldn’t make anything half as functional, let alone that good looking. Have you contemplated painting it to make it match the original stand or are you just gonna leave this one?

Well, it turns out I can reattach cables that have been peeled off their VB displays – if they’re carefully reheated and stuck back on – but it’s certainly not something I want to do again, unless it’s absolutely necessary.

So, if you’re contemplating doing the solder repair, or having it done, DO NOT mess with the cable or PCB in any way (unless you’re instructed to do so by your service provider)!

So does this mean my 2 displays may have some hope as well? BTW sorry I haven’t mailed them out STILL. I have been sick (still slightly sick) and life has not been to kind lately and I feel like a real ass for taking so long.

Amazing work you all! I really love all the detail and work that seem to have went into this.

The user Runnerpack has fixed my displays on my 1st VB. I’m sending out my second set to him tomorrow (hopefully). I would definitely contact him. His prices are very fair and his work is top notch. If you look at the “Like New” thread, I posted pictures of his work so you know what you can expect.

Thanks 🙂 I haven’t forgotten about you and the displays. I keep forgetting to bring the envelope with me when I go out to run errands. I have it in the car now so I can send it out hopefully today lol

I am afraid I might have forgotten, though. What are you talking about? 😀

I was responding to Runnerpack. Sorry.

Great job!

It definitely looks girly, that’s for sure 😉

I agree with KR155E; the finish looks quite professional.

Thank you all for the kind words 🙂

I wanna do more systems now! I just no better than to use the last place for the graphics lol

Would you guys be interested in watching a custom DMG and/or GBA build?

Thank you 🙂

I wish it didn’t take me so long to finish but now that it’s done, I gotta agree it really does look nice.

The Virtual Boy was never released in Europe right? That’s awesome you were able to grab one for yourself 🙂

Looking great. There have been some recolored VirtualBoys in the past but this one is the best so far. Also nice to hear that the vinyls arrived after all.

Thanks for the kind words. I was about to give up on it because of those damn vinyls. I originally ordered the ones where I could paint the logo on myself but I’m guessing that was too difficult for the vinyl people to do. Whatever, I got the logos on now and it looks so much better now that its complete.

My vinyls FINALLY arrived! My envelope looked like someone lost it up their hoo-hah for a damn year but I finally got it. After MONTHS of waiting for these 2 tiny graphics, I can finally say this project is aesthetically done (gotta get the displays working again).

I finally present to you, the Virtual Girl!

Sorry to hear you’ve been jerked around with your items as well (even though from a diff supplier).

I’m in constant contact with the person and it’s excuse after excuse. I’m just waiting to hear what today’s excuse is going to be when the vinyls don’t show up AGAIN.

I’ve decided on Monday I am going to contact my usual vinyl supplier to see how much it would cost to have these graphics made. I lost money on this but, I suppose that’s how the dice rolls sometimes.

I’l keep posting updates on this vinyl nonsense as they develop

At this point it’s just better to cut my losses and have a professional do it. This is what I get for trying to help out a new, small business. It’s a person I know that owns and runs the damn business as well. Such a lack of professionalism.

*sigh* These @#$%&*@$#*$&@ vinyls still have not come in. I still have until tomorrow but I am having my doubts that it will show up. I’ve ordered things from double the distance and received it in 2 days. To top it off, these were supposed to be sent with tracking but then I get an email saying they were too busy to do it so they just mailed them out normally again with nothing so it only adds to my feelings that these things are never gonna show up :'(
