Here is an interesting LINK I found a while back. Look at the 3rd item down on the list. It seems that at one point someone was trying to to sell a copy of D-Hopper. I have no idea if this person actually had a copy, sold it/traded it, or still has it. I tried to contact the person to get more info on it. But, I never recieved a reply back.

You have to remember that just because a game was never released, it does not mean coppies don’t exist. Nintendo may still have coppies of a few games that were set up for demo. I’m sure that they would have just ended up in “storage” some place, never to see the light of day again. As with any company, there are always a few people within that have access to things that others do not. There is no doubt in my mind that someone out there has a copy. If you were that person, would you say anything? Probably not.

I, too, am still in the middle of working on my link cable. I just have the basic parts of it made, and have not done much with the wire configuration. There was a link that helped me get started with it. If I happen to find it, I’ll be sure to post it here. So keep checking back now and then.

As far as it not working for any of the commercial games, I can’t offer much info. As mine has yet to be tested for obvious reasons. I only know what I have read on the subject. However, I find it odd that a link cable was almost in production before the VB failed. But, without games already out that would support it. I guess I should not be too surprised, as Nintendo made many mistakes with this system.

With so many possible wire configurations (functional or not), maybe it’s possible that the proper config. has yet to be discovered. Keep in mind that this is a mere hypothesis of mine that has yet to be put to any kind of tests. A good example would be a 2-player old-school Gameboy cartridge. With a few of those games, the 2-player option would not even be visible at the start-up of a game unless it was connected to another Gameboy with the same cart in it.

Anyway, it’s just food for thought. I hope to get working on it again soon.

lol, good luck with that.

Actually, I believe it was spelled Skate or Die.

my picks

1- Gallactic Pinball
2- Wario Land
3- Panic Bomber

classics

1- Doom all the way baby!
2- Dragon Warrior (What can I say? I got hooked.)
3- Scate or Die (Yes, another classic I had a weakness for, lol)

Grats on that 😉 I saw someone selling a Virtual Boy on eBay with a couple of games. It had the “Buy It Now” option. The seller had offered the us version of Jack Bros. for free if the “Buy It Now” option was selected. I noticed people had started bidding, which cancled out that option. So, naturally, I email the seller asking if I could buy it off of him. Long story short, I got the US version for $35 w/o a box or instructions. It did have the black platic cover though.

Yeah, but I still find it funny how a “revolutionary” idea is a half-blast from the past. Seeing as how the Game & Watch utilized 2 different screens for the same game. It’s just interesting is all. I would certainly hope the resemblance ends there.

lol @ virtual jim

I too can MIG weld. I am a union sheet metal worker out of local 265. I saw your auctions on eBay even before I checked out this forum. The looked very nice. But, I have Created my very own Lamp-O-Tron that works very nicely. When I get the chance, I’ll have some specs and details of how I assembled/created mine soon. I actually just finnished it this week with the final touches. And, I used the original springs that came with the lamp, rather than spending money on new ones. Works great!!! Like I said, I’ll have photos to share soon. Keep an eye open 😉

You would think that the games released for the VB by Nintendo, that at least a couple of them would be able to utilize the link cable. I mean, come on….they were planning on realeasing the damned things at one point. What’s the use if none of the existing games can use them? But, I’m sure my theory is wrong. Seeing as how the VB failed for many neglected reasons by Nintendo. :'(

I am half German. I should really learn how to speak it 🙁

please excuse any typos from above as i am currently drunk 😉

I thought some of you may find this interesting…

Now, from the looks of the handheld shown above, it does not look like we are getting any kind of 3-D or VR type of system. It looks more like what most people suspected. Which is a second screen for maps and the like.

It’s funny how history has a way of repeating itself. If this keeps up, I’m sure that Nintendo will dust off the old VB idea and put it to use again within the next decade (crosses finger’s).

I should probably give credit to the site where I got the photos from. It’s at THIS LINK . It’s an interesting article.

Well, price is generally not much of an object. I would not consider paying $1,000 for SD Gundam or Virt. Bowling, but I would be willing to fork out some cash for a copy if you mannage to make some. You can email me at BC2412@aol.com if you ever make any. 😀

Quote from olle:

…there should be no vb 2. no good idea i think.
Virtual Reality on a Handheld ?? No !!
I think in the past it was no good decision to port VR to a Handheld, although VB is really a unique handheld.
Today i hope Nintendo’s ‘Revolution’ will be able to connect a VR headset, it’s power will be enough to manage it, today the headset would be more comfortable to wear it, it’s possible to put sensors in it who will recognise movements of the Players Head (lookaround in VR), enough Power for first person Shooters or – i hope – games like Zelda. It’s time for it.

Enough reasons i think.

First of all, the Virtual Boy was not a Virtual Reality system, and it never claimed to be. Second of all, is not a handheld system, and they never claimed that it was! It was mostly advertised as a “portable” “3-D” gaming system. Which we all know is entirely different.

The closest to virtual reality gaming that any of us can really afford is some nice 3-D glasses from this LINK , and hooking them up to your computer. I love the VB as much as anyone here, but I really doubt that Nintendo is going to make any kind of VR system in our lifetime, or ever. The initail cost of the system would be through the roof, and most likely end up like the VB1.

The 3-D glasses on that LINK are very affordable, and very effective. Great for games like DOOM III.

FYI my email address is BC2412@aol.com if anyone wishes to email me about anything. You can also get me on AIM at BC2412.

There are a number of people you can count on one hand that have made emulators, which allow you to play VB games on your PC. “Homebrewed” games are also in the works for the emulators. But, I have yet to see any home-made games actually put on a cart. If it does ever happen, those two-dollar coppies of virtual leauge baseball on eBay will be selling like hotcakes 😉

I don’t think I’d ever have any use for bootlegs anyway. However, new home-made games put on carts would be an interesting buy. I guess it’s just the whole idea of a “new” game for the VB. Emulators just aren’t the same thing as plugging your face into a VB. But, at least if gives us the chance to try out games we don’t own/never will own. (e.g. Virtual Bowling and SD Gundam)

Want List=

Space Invaders
Space Squash

I would love to try out Virtual Bowling or SD Gundam, but it’s just WAY too much for one such as myself to spend on a game. I am not under the disillusion that the modern world will some how collapse, and VB games will replace modern forms of currency. Like that guy with the PEZ dispencer collection that was interviewed on the Daily Show on Comedy Central, lol. Therefor, I can’t justify spending that much.

Also, a word to all of you in the UK… I notice that the UK auctions on eBay are always much higher in price than the US auctions. But, if you check out many of the US ones, they will ship to the UK. I’m sure that even with the shipping costs, it would still be cheaper than buying ones from the UK.
