This is awesome! I’ve wanted to play the HyperFighting rom for so long and always sad my flashboy couldnt do it! Email sent for the next batch (hopefully) 🙂

Count me in! I’ve dropped you an email as stated on the first post. However it gets funded I’m in!

Ah yes, I remember now reading that. I’m on the lookout for a spare unit, hopefully I can find one at a fair price. Although with eBay these days I don’t have high hopes.

Excellent idea!

I’ll defiantly be interested in one 🙂

I’d also be interested in one once it finds release 🙂

A good question from PerfectlyNoah on what games would see the ability to use it, I think the simple answer is none of the retail games, but it would open a whole new world for the Homebrew chaps.

Do we know if any of the retail games might have supported the link cable, obviously none make the option obvious but perhaps there’s some unused code floating about in the games?

Mario’s Tennis seems like an ideal candidate to have a link option buried in it’s code…

I think if Nintendo had pushed a link cable at launch with a game like Mario’s Tennis it may have been a bit more popular once people realised they could play with friends.

We can all dream can’t we 🙂

These are indeed still for sale send Hedgetrimmer a PM for details on payment etc.

I recently ordered one and to say they are sturdy is an understatement! These things are rock solid and make the stand much more rigid!

I highly recommend these to all VB owners. Get one before they go!

I got my screens back from Johan (TheForce81) yesterday, the quality of his repair is top notch as was his communication throughout. I cannot recommend his services enough!

Very happy to say my VB is working perfectly once more thanks to him!

It’s great that we have people like this in the community to keep us gaming on our VB’s!

That’s good news then! 🙂 Enjoy!

Ok so things to check.

If you have a multimeter check the voltage on your battery pack to to rule out duff batteries and the like. Also the pins on the back of the controller sometimes don’t make good contact with the battery pack so just pull them out a little to ensure good contact.

Insert the game cart a few time 20 or so to ensure the connections are solid, this also helps if the contacts are dirty. Even new if this has been sitting around the contacts might still be dirty depending on where and how it’s been stored.

Some contact cleaner on the cart connector would also be a good start. As well as on the battery pack contact points.

If the unit can’t detect a game it won’t power on.

I’d be very surprised if it’s not working at all.

I bought mine as a non working unit that wouldn’t power on, this turned out to be dodgy contacts on the battery pack due to leakage and the controller pins not making proper contact with the battery pack. Obviously yours wont have the leakage issue but it may have a problem with the pins.

oddly enough that was the last game I played as well, it really is to me the best game on the system, lovely graphics, solid gameplay and great sound.

A Mario rom hack would be pretty awesome! I’m surprised no one has done it already! 🙂

Great article! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Crazy! I was in America around this time 20 years ago and remember seeing it shops over there.

I remember hassling my dad to get me one but it never happened.

Nintendo gave up on this system far too easily IMO. I mean giving up before even 1 year is out is not the way to do it. They should have given the system a solid year to try and make its mark on Gamers.

I personally think a Mario game on the system would have made more people at least try the system. The demo alone looked awesome!

Drop Richard an email and he can provide you with details of costing etc. I’d recommend you be quick though as he’s just made a new batch and they go fast!

Welcome to the forums and enjoy VB ownership 🙂 A flashboy is a purchase you will not regret!

sent you a PM TheForce81. Might as well get it fixed permanently 🙂

Only paid for it yesterday and it’s arrived in the post this morning already! Top Notch Service from Richard!

Really glad to A.Have a Virtual Boy again after having to sell mine, B. Having a Flashboy once more!

Happy days indeed 😀

He certainly is still making these, I’ve already dropped him an email and he’s informed me there should be a new run of these coming soon 🙂 Looking forward to owning one once more.

dropped you a PM sir, I’m in need of one also please 🙂 Sadly not even araldite was enough to hold the old girl together 🙁

Very pleased to say I’m once again a VB owner.

I’ve just gotten VN100832570 from eBay. US unit.

Was sold as not working, batteries have leaked and damaged the controller.

New controller on the way from the US, however I have managed to get it working and very happy to say both screens work perfectly 🙂 happy days!

Hi Guys,

Not sure if someone has already suggested this but here we go anyway.

I noticed way back in the thread someone mentioned using bull dog clips or similar to clap down the ribbon cable after an oven repair.

I have found these ribbon cable clips on element 14 which should provide a much more secure and even pressure to the cables without interfering with the internal movement.

http://uk.farnell.com/pro-power/fc-40/clamp-ribbon-cable-30way/dp/1268997?ost=1268997&mckv=c8tKOIJi%7Cpcrid%7C69480985509%7Cplid%7C&CMP=KNC-GUK-FUK-GEN-SHOPPING-PRO_POWER&CAGPSPN=pla&gclid=CK_A6tCIqMYCFYzMtAod7b8CcA&CAWELAID=120173390000020720&gross_price=true

Adding some thin foam of padding either side of the clip can also help to secure the clip and ensure it’s applying even pressure.

Hopefully this will help someone out 🙂
