Update!!
Here is a cool little clip that is just slightly over 3 minutes long and it’s totally worth watching!
It’s a vimeo clip, so just click the link below to watch a very interesting clip from the upcoming documentary film about the power glove!
The film is almost being released soon, I don’t have the exact date but that information should be coming very soon.
Enjoy the cool exclusive clip from the film and happy holidays!
I just wanted to share this link since Virtual Fishing appeared on gonintendo.com
http://gonintendo.com/stories/246007-japanese-only-virtual-boy-title-virtual-fishing-gets-fan-transl
I just love seeing virtual boy news pop up on video game news/blog sites because it just really makes you think that even old systems/handhelds are still getting love LONG after it’s been discontinued from the market/companies.
Nice to see kotaku giving the Virtual boy some attention today!

Happy birthday virtual boy!!!
don’t worry about that because gonintendo.com is known for having a bunch of immature trolls just posting negative comments since they got nothing better to do.
ANYWAYS, guess who else picked up on the story and is still on the front page?
Gonintendo.com posted this today.

Always love to see other sites like gonintendo.com spread the good news about this project.
awesome theme but I highly doubt it is a hint because I thought of the same thing when I saw the virtual boy appearing in the Animal Crossing New Leaf game. Eventually I realized that Nintendo just did it because….well it’s Nintendo! Everyone knows that Nintendo does weird things but most of all I think it’s safe to say that TONS of 1st party nintendo games have nintendo related easter eggs/nods/etc and I always enjoy seeing stuff like this. I’m going to buy that theme now that you posted it!
oh wow this is so cool!!!
Who knows, maybe one day we may end up seeing the game file/rom online that is uploaded by one of the developers or someone who was attached to one or several of the unreleased virtual boy games.
All of the magazine scans are AMAZING ben! Seriously, this is probably my favorite thread of this entire board right now lol.
I really hope some of the developers/coders/etc that were working on any of these unreleased virtual boy games will one day upload whatever game file/rom they have left of the unreleased virtual boy game online.
Then I’m sure there will be groups or teams of dedicated virtual boy fans that will take on one of the unreleased virtual boy games and try to actually make it a playable completed game!
If I could I would love to play that wrestling game on the virtual boy but who knows when any of these unreleased virtual boy games will find it’s way online.

more new stretch goals added!
since the project has already reached the funding goal, the project creator adding interesting stretch goals!
$37K – Neo Geo R&D – The Neo Geo AES (home version) uses the same A/V port as the Genesis 1 cable, and we’ve already written our own custom test software for it. It was this software that allowed us to determine the Neo Geo signals would be too bright when used with the current cable design. If we reach this stretch goal, we will be able to buy different Neo Geo console revisions and thoroughly test them all to determine whether we can modify the circuit to accommodate this console via a switch. While we will make every best effort to successfully do this, we cannot guarantee this functionality due to the number of unknowns involved with varying console revisions.
$42K – Test Cartridge Art – All test cartridges will come labeled with art designed by Tom Wysocki, with personalization touches for the owner.
$50K
Level upgrades –
$150 / $275 Early Cable Packs – come with a Swag Pack.
$200 Production Run + Test Cart – can now opt for an Early Cable instead.
$350 Nerd Pack – add a production version of the cable.
$600 Ubernerd Pack – add a production version of both cables.
$1000 Founders Club – also will be rounded out to include production and early versions of both cables.
$60K – Sega Dreamcast R&D – At this level, we’ll be able to pour more research into full development of a Dreamcast component cable by writing test software, acquiring/testing more consoles, and implementing progressive-scan mode (for supported games). While we already have a rough prototype, there are a number of remaining issues to work out and we have not tested it on a variety of console revisions, such as PAL versions. While we can’t guarantee production of these due to unforeseen issues that may arise in development, hitting this level will guarantee we have the resources to begin working towards an actual product.
$70K – HDMIzer Development – We will hire an additional engineer to expedite development of the HDMIzer so that this product can be released more quickly, allowing the cables to work on televisions that don’t accept 240p signals from retro consoles. See description in this link: http://www.hdretrovision.com/future-products/

i think this is a really cool project. however, i don’t see that great of an improvement. while i still enjoy my old consoles, these days it is much more convenient to run emulators and output via hdmi. with filters and plug-ins i can achieve more desirable results, and everything is running on 1 system with a controller of my choice.while emulation may not allow 100% of the games to function as they should, i’m still getting a great experience. i can still relive those memories. etc.
I know exactly what you mean! I can still easily relive my memories from all the classic games I love but I always love to see the differences between how the game looked way back then and comparing it today with whatever new updated technology/products that are available to the public.
I also agree that this project is indeed cool because again it may not be for everyone but it’s still nice to have this option if some gamers would like to see the small differences between the old and new products/cables/etc.
One game that I always have a habit of replaying ONCE a year no matter what is “Zelda A Link To The Past” because no matter how many times I replay that game, I always love it. I also try to challenge myself by trying to beat the game faster and faster if I feel like I’m up to it. So I am actually interested to see how Link to the Past will look once I get these new component cables in the mail.
It looks like this project is easily going to reach the funding goal since as of right now the project is literally $4,174 away from reaching the funding goal with 20 long days left! Woot!
Just to be curious, if you could replay any game you wanted with the new component cables that the KS project is offering, what game would you replay to the point where you actually beat the game again?
And to anyone else that is reading this comment, I would like to reask the same question that I asked Lester Knight. If you could replay any game you wanted with the new component cables that the KS project is offering, which game would you choose to play and why?
Oh shoot! One last thing I forgot to mention is that the KS component cable project just recently released a new update and this might be interesting for anyone that is still debating if they should back this project or not:
here is the link to the new update news
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hdretrovision/sega-genesis-and-super-nintendo-component-cables/posts/1047046
and the best part about the new update is that the project creator just recently created a Twitch account, here is the message they stated in the new update:
======================================
Finally, we have a Twitch.tv account that we’re streaming demos from all week. We’ll send out another update when we have official demos going on for certain games, but you can check out our channel here for impromptu sessions: http://www.twitch.tv/hd_retrovision
======================================
You can also send the project creator a message from his kickstarter page and request a certain game you would like the project creator to play with the new component cable.

if you look at KRISSE’s link, you’ll see that someone named Preston J. Walker successfully trademarked the term “Virtual Boy” in 2010, long after Nintendo’s expired. Any ideas?He is one of the founders of a band called Virtual Boy: http://www.alphapuprecords.com/artistpage.php?ArtistID=162
WTF? So basically a band called “virtual boy” actually trademarked the name? Does this mean that Nintendo doesn’t own the “Virtual boy” name anymore or am I wrong?
thanks
ah shoot! that makes sense since I remembered reading an article about SEGA doing something similar with the Dreamcast as well.
well there goes my hopes of seeing a few virtual boy games on the virtual shop!
GREAT NEWS!
The project has been FUNDED! There is still 21 hours left if you want to back the project as I only backed the digital copy of the movie and not the DVD since the DVD is a tad bit expensive and I don’t really buy DVD’s or Blu Ray’s these days.
Well there is some good news that was just recently announced by the project creator
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/powerglove/the-power-of-glove-a-power-glove-documentary/posts/954852
==============================================
Hi Everyone,
We’ve been receiving a lot of messages from fans who are suggesting that the pledge amount for the DVD should be lowered in order to make it more widely accessible. When we set out to make this documentary, it was always our goal to stay in close touch with our fans and to try to accommodate their suggestions, so ask and you shall receive!
Today we’re introducing a limited-amount of DVD prize packages for a $30 pledge amount. For those of you who have already pledged a higher amount for the DVDs, we totally understand if you’d like to reduce your pledge amount for this limited-edition offer. No hard feelings.
And as always, please contact us if you ever have any questions or comments.
All the best,
The Power of Glove Team

HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIRTUAL BOY!!!!

AWESOME!
first the Kickstarter 1 million stretch goal and now this? I love how the virtual boy is getting some attention these past 7-10 days.

a game like this would do great things for raising awareness about the virtual boy. it may even spark interest in homebrew development. at the very least, it will put our beloved console and probably this site in the news for a time. i don’t see the harm in a little reeducation. =)
Exactly! Plus, there has been some crazy KS projects where the stretch goals were reached and beyond. Also, even if the stretch goal is not met, I bet they would still try to release it in the future when they have free time but who knows!
Just got another message back from the project creator and they look pretty serious about the virtual boy stretch goal!
Here is another follow up message I got in return from the project creator:
===============================
“I’d be happy to bring the title to 3DS / Wii U. My office is a library of gaming history from 1977 on up. The message maybe a bit mixed since the focus is squarely on VR.
BTW, there will be an article about how detailed and serious we are on VB support hitting the net very shortly.
As unlikely as it is that I’ll reach the stretch goal, we are 100% serious about it. Me and my crew are no strangers to console development young and old”
===============================
I am looking forward to seeing more news about the virtual boy stretch goal because I seriously thought it was a joke because sometimes KS project creators add a silly stretch goal that is in the millions of dollars. However, this could be different!
I will update again as soon as they release more info via article or video. Unless someone else gets more info about this then reply away!
cheers!
see this is why its hard to buy from ebay sometimes lol I always try to see if there is an item outside of china or whatever because whenever I get stuff that comes from there, it usually breaks or its bootleg crap.
Dahhh!!! I was going to post this but anyways this is STILL awesome! I used to stare at these ads at toysrus and other stores for hours while my mom or dad would shop.
according to the person who uploaded that video, he said that some idiot is selling this laserdisc on ebay for $1,000 bucks! hahahahahaha
oh great, another gametheorist video lol. These are the same people that said Wario is 10 feet tall in another video by using their own math and logic lol. Plus, this video is clearly a click-bait video as the Wii U is nowhere near as bad or a failure as the virtual boy. So many people said that the 3DS was the next Virtual Boy and look at how extremely well the 3DS is doing now 🙂
