Is there a way to incorperate a brightness control in some games? Galactic Pinball is a bit dim to my tastes.

Even if you cannot make a menu (which I think will be impossible), it would be nice if you could bring out patches for the different modes. By that I mean that if you have like 5 different brightness modes that you can use 5 different IPS patches on the ROM. In that way you can flash the games with a brightness setting you like.

No clue if this is possible at all, but it would be a nice hack in my opinion!

That seems a little expensive, I paid about $25 with shipping for mine a few weeks ago.

If you decide to go for it however, make sure the seller packs it in a sturdy outer box so you won’t get it pressed together like mine was when it arrived.

Ahhhh, OK, I see then. I didn’t post this auction for myself, I thought there was someone here after this and I thought that person couldn’t get it for less than $100.

Not going to pay all that while I have a Flashboy :). I am just interested in playing this system and making it work as best as I can(like repairing the displays and such).

For everyone still wanting Jack Bros. Japan in mint condition: http://cgi.ebay.com/JACK-BROS-Nintendo-VIRTUAL-BOY-JP-IMPORT-JAPAN-NEW_W0QQitemZ330405178810QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Vintage_Video_Games?hash=item4cedaeedba

Seems to be a very acceptable price, or am I wrong? I hope someone here will be happy after reading this! 🙂

Today I repaired my second screen in the same VB unit as well and I have to say that I am very happy with doing that! They are way brighter now, tomorrow I will go and solder my next one as well. It seems the contact is very important and brightness fares very well with any type of solder solution.

With me it was important to not set the iron too cold, or it will not melt the plastic. After doing this second one I got it done faster, but nowhere near 4 mins lol!

Nice story, I am from the Netherlands and here they were never released. I do remember hearing about it from friends when I was about 12 years old and wanting it. Though never saw it coming out here. Now a few months ago I got to know about its release and jumped on a few auctions and am enjoying this superb device! So I kinda know your feeling, have fun with it when it arrives!

If you check out the auction it says Bound High comes on a Flashboy. So 99 dollars is a sweet deal anyways 😛

Well, I just repaired my second VB glitchy screens by soldering them. It doesn’t look the cleanest, but it does the job and it is done well! I am located in the Netherlands.

Yeah e5frog, you are right, guess I am still a bit intoxicated because of yesterday :P. We should definitely wait on the next one, although you get a Flashboy with it!

Wow, we should bid on that collectively to insure the ROM getting out in the wild and to not outbid eachother what would be dumb :P.
I would put down a few Euro’s bucks on it if more people would too!

Thank you for your research and experimenting on this technique! I fixed my second VB with this method and it is VERY easy compared to other methods in my opinion!

DogP

oh bugger!

if I had seen that before I wouldn’t of bothered posting the URL to the video 😕

I am glad you did, this seems to be the easiest method for me. I tried getting the copper out of the plastic with a knife, though that didn’t go as well as I hoped.

Anyone tried this? I have one screen that has serious problems and want to try this!

you should probably take it back to the store you bought it from and get a refund.

I guess that OR you are making a joke, OR you did not read all of this thread. It is a bug in the game altogether, doesn’t have to do with the VB or the cartridge as I tried it on different VB’s with different cartridges.

Yeah, the bug is definitely confirmed, “nice” to see that the emu has the problem as well and others can confirm it too!

Edit:
So if you wouldn’t go for the jackpot you could probably get higher scores, nice to know 😛

I know how to use edits, but in this case I wanted to make a fresh reply due to the test I just did. I used a different VB and it STILL froze up! Though it froze up on the jackpot once again (this time on 139 mil and made a new screenie! :P) it is definitely a bug in the game!!

e5frog wrote:
I doubt it too, but it would be interesting to make sure.

Damit! Now you have me wanting to test this as well lol, and getting that score is not too easy! Ahh well, it is connected and ready for some action now…..

Does it lock up on other Virtual Boy units as well?

Perhaps it can be reproduced in Reality Boy as well, is it possible to change data in the debugger version and then keep on playing?

I have one other glitchy screen VB laying around, but the VB I tested it on seems to be rock solid (the non glitschy screen one). Never had any problems whatsoever and since the audio keeps running I highly doubt it is a problem with this unit.

I made a mistake with the screenshot :/. I deleted the screenshot of the original cart instance. It only happened with the jackpot, though only above the amount of 120 mil. And reproducing that is hard lol, I never really tried getting a higher score without doing the jackpot because it is very hard to get that amount of points ;). Though getting the jackpot in Cosmic doesn’t present me with this problem.

Too bad I deleted the original cart screenie, as it had 133 mil points….. Is a video good enough as a screenie 😛 ?

Johnny, could you please check your PM? Thanks!

And just got in my second! Only for 21.5 bucks, and it works! It was sold “as is” though it works perfectly fine, a bit glitchy displays, but I will repair that no problem. As my former purchase had a damaged stand I bought this purely for the stand, though I got a working unit with it!!!!

It didn’t come with a power supply, though I have enough tools to craft an adapter in it and I will have two working VB’s for a steal if you ask me! Only negative is that this one didn’t come with a visor, though I only can play one at the time so 😉
One happy VB gamer here!!!

It’s “Farer away”, right? 😉 Before posting it in the Wiki, I think I should make a better one, maybe even several for objects at different distants instead of putting all in one image, which can get confusing quickly, with all the lines and colors and blocks. 😉

It is farther or further away. But in your case it is farther as it is about distance.

Or just check here to learn more about it:
