Ok, here’s what happened: I was going to stream on Sunday but got major backpain. So bad actually, I could barely get of the couch and had to cancel my vacation. Besides spending allot of money for nothing I could have really needed some days off. I blame my IKEA chair at home but it doesn’t really matter. Let’s just say that the 2 days I spent on VB development at home didn’t end well. I might be able to borrow a chair at work though, so that might be taken care off. I can‘t really sit all that long right now so it will take some time till I continue streaming. I do have some cool ideas of what to do next though. I will keep you guys updated.

Honestly, either option works. I have been meaning to go back to Germany. Last time I was there it was only a few hours after a flight was canceled.
Tell me when you happen to be here. I know a good burger place.
Hey everyone,
I would like to do another stream this weekend but I’m having trouble finding a good time. One of the problems being that there are 6 to 9 hours time difference. I also have to get up rather early on Monday to catch a flight.
So whats better?
1: 7 am German time (Sunday), which is 10 pm PST (Saturday) and 1 am est (Sunday)
2: 3 pm German time (Sunday), which is 6 am PST (Sunday) and 9 am est (Sunday)
3: Everyone moves to Germany, Bigmak pays
I actually wanted to record the stream and upload it to youtube later. There are two reasons why I didn’t activate the “auto archive” feature of twitch.
1. I wanted to encourage people to join the live stream as I want to have a conversation but also because I would like to become a twitch affiliate. That would allow me to use some of the more advanced options of twitch and also receive money through twitch. There is still some software (like Photoshop, DevExpress and so on) I would like to buy and I need a better chair. Usually I would just spent my own money but I will move towards the end of the year so I try to save some money.
2. I’m a bit scared of giving away personal information or simply saying something incredible stupid. So I would like to have the option to cut out certain parts.

It was on 2d to 3d conversionJust to clarify for those who weren’t there: It wasn’t as much about 2D-to-3D conversion as it was about the development of thunderstruck’s 2D-to-3D converter (in C#).
It was informative, though… for those who want to know how a modern Windows app is written (using MS tools).
Thanks for the clarification.
I think it was a good first try even though I was very tired. I’m not sure when I can do this again. Saturday might be a good day as I will be out of the country from Monday on. I will return on the Sunday after so I might skip a week. The idea is to do this on a regular basis with a fixed schedule though.
I will also try to give a better overview of what’s already there and focus a bit more on the VB side of things.
I also asked a coworker if he would join in remotely so we could do pair-programming (which is a way more effective way to write code). So I might do that as well.
Ok, lets try this.
I will start on Sunday 8pm German time.
That should be 11am pst and 1pm est.
I might have technical problems and stuff, we will see. Lets consider this a trial run.
I will use my existing twitch account for now:
https://www.twitch.tv/gamesandsoftdrinks
First topic will be the 2D to 3D converter. If this turns out I will also try to figure out a fixed schedule and post announcements before each stream. I might also setup a poll for future topics.
The Vectrex is great. I read somewhere that many unsold units where gutted and then used as cardiogram monitors. I was looking for a second gamepad but they are rather expensive and hard to find.
Hey everyone,
there has only been a little bit of process since my last post. I did create a better integration of all my tools into vbde. It allows me to make changes to the tools more easily and also supports my workflow.
The more exiting news is that Morintari is helping me out like crazy with drawing assets. Hey already did some pretty cool sprites. He’s using Pro Motion NG which seems to be a pretty good choice.
We discussed ideas for the game an he’s now creating assets that are much closer to what I envisioned the game to look like in the beginning. However, that also means I will have to program a completely new game mode (I will try to keep the one I have).
Before starting that stuff I will have to improve my image converter a bit though. I want to properly integrate the 2D to 3D converter and add an proper UI.
There’s also a fancy programmer with a big cartridge one the way to my home which hopefully should allow me to have better sound quality.
However, I have very limited time right now for private reasons. That’s why everything is going so slow. Maybe there will be a Christmas Demo. We will see.

I did some things like those when I uncovered images of a scrapped character in the rom. So maybe one day.

I think you posted the wrong link.
Dumping is the best way to tell if it is legit. If the rom is identical to the buggy or patched rom it’s most likely not legit due to the way those have been build. The current rom is known to be the final version so I doubt there would be any ingame differences.
Maybe someone can tell from looking at the board if it is fake. That would be even easier.
Reminds me that the license plate on my motorcycle says VB-32
What the hell, I talked to him yesterday. I hope everything turns out fine.

Ah ok, I wasn’t sure if it was a typo or not. Dr. Mario the best game? Those are fighting words to me jk 😛 The best game ever made is The Adventures of Lolo lol
Thunderstruck, how difficult would a fix for it be considering it’s been said to be a coding mess?
Seeing a remastered version would be nice, Dreammary. I would definitely spend more time on V-lab if it was made a little more playable.
I’m crazy good at Dr. Mario. I actually like to playing the PAL game in an NTSC console because it runs faster. I also hacked it to make it even faster.
No idea how difficult Virtual Lab would be to change (more). The code is kind of messy and stuff. Also depend on what needs to be done. Is there something besides the controls that needs fixing?

The comic made it sound like an awesome game but the actual gameplay looked like the worst game on VB.I agree. I loved the comic for it and the design of the “Mu” were adorable in it. It had a lot of potential if it had just a LITTLE more time I think.

It’s a shame the controls are so bad. The game does’t have potential. The controls took me a while to kind of adjust to. I think it had some potential. I could see it being as good as Dr. Mario if it had a little more polish on it.

I…actually don’t mind v lab at all. Yeah it’s painfully clear that it was rushed, but it’s a game I can sink some time in. Just gotta get past those laggy controls, which can definitely be frustrating. Plus that dancing girl on the side just makes me lol.Nothing wrong with enjoying V-Lab. I love plenty of games people consider crap lol. Lisa was the best part of the game. I laughed at her boobs bouncing around for no reason and her artwork was cute.

Just download vbde. It comes with a number of demos for libgccvb and vuengine. It’s actually rather easy to pick up.If you have questions just post in the forums or contact me. There is also a Discord server.
Depends on how good you are when it comes to learning new things. You will definitely have an easier time learning a newer (object oriented) language like java or c#. But c isn’t too bad and libgccvb and vuengine are good enough to to give you a faster start.
Just have a look at the demos and see if you can figure out what is going on. If not, maybe have a look at some java tutorials.
Programming itself isn’t that hard. It’s much more about logic then anything else. Writing clean, readable code on the other hand can be a challenge, especially with older programming languages. Then again, no one forces you to write clean code.
Just for the record. Kevin can make as many repos of my games and sell them on ebay as much as he wants. That includes Virtual Fishing, Faceball Remastered, Fishbone and even GameHero if someone wants it. Snatcher would be a bit unfair for the buyer given it’s current state.
Personally, I don’t see the problem with selling HF repos but that’s just me.
Edit: I’m not saying this because he sent me free stuff but because he’s become one of the most active members of the community doing awesome stuff all of the time.
Nice of you to ask, I wanted post about this for some time. As some of you might have noticed, I wasn’t as active for quite some time. That was mainly caused by having a slipped disk a year ago which was a rather painful experience. While I’m mostly pain-free right now, I can’t sit on my couch and program Virtual Boy games while watching TV with my wife anymore.
That’s why I started building up a proper home-office. I’ve build a pretty cool desk already, bought a better monitor and a mechanical keyboard. I still need a proper chair (long time sitting is quite hell) and might buy a better second monitor. I also will need to somehow plan VB programming into my daily schedule as I can’t just do it while doing other stuff anymore.
However, here are the projects I’m working on:
Game Hero Legends
It’s about time I build a better version of this. I actually already rewrote my code that handles images and music (the VB code as well as the converters that I integrated into vbde). I had a guy doing graphics for me but he dropped out because he was busy with other stuff. So I might need some help there. I guess I will also need to buy Resharper and clion to speed things up a bit.
Snatcher
That one needs a complete rewrite. The tool I wrote for ripping data from the original game is just awful. The VB code isn’t that great as well. The game is also getting really big so I might wait for the bigger Flashcards from Kevin. When I return I might need some help with all the stereoscopic images and transcripts and so on. I will also need to buy photoshop again.
Tools
I have quite a number of tools for converting music, images, creating 3D from 2D images and other stuff. I would like to integrate everything into vbde also.
Rom Hacks
I have so many ideas for ROM-Hacks.
Open Source
I think the community will have the greatest benefit when sources are made public. Almost all projects somehow base on code that has been written ages ago by the early members of the community. There has been allot archived since then but somehow most developers don’t publish sources. Usually the reason for not publishing sources is code quality but I think people can also learn from ugly code. So I plan on making my projects open source (I released sources for everything I completed already).
None VB related stuff
I actually started a number of not VB related projects. You can talk to me on discord if you are interested.
