I have the ROM, if you know who wants it released
I wouldn’t release it, a lot of people will be very unhappy.
Yeah, Mr. Anon is the one who “owns” the work that violates Capcom’s copyrights. If he ever decides to release it, great. Otherwise, anybody else leaking it would be considered a disgrace in more ways than many.
Yeah, that’s the annoying part. I have several roms that have never been released given to me by different sources. With all of them I have been asked not to share them or talk about them. So I don’t because I’m not someone who breaks a promise.
Tusk is on it. No idea when it will happen. Glad you like it though. It was awful to make.

While I don’t get why the ROM is kept secret
It was just to ensure the author got his cut. It’s such an amazing piece of programming.
BTW a cart-only version of the full game will soon be released.
Makes sense. It has been released over 2 and a half years ago though.
Isn’t it about time to release the rom?

Hey, Thunder! I just tried out the Chun-Li and Guile versions of your hacked version of Mr. Anon’s publicly released demo. I imagine the three hacked versions you released should help to satisfy those who don’t have access to the full version, even allowing them to view it in 3D on an Oculus Rift, I believe.I take it you weren’t able to find any debug menu in the demo version, allowing the speed or difficulty to be changed?
I checked very briefly but nothing hit my eye.

My guess is that Lucky was planned to be a character but eventually didn’t made it. His winning line would have been “Woof! Woof!”. Given that the fighter image is a dog, my guess is that it is Mr. Annos dog and he planned to have him in there as a easteregg.Do you truly see “Lucky” as a dog? He looks very much like an ape to me, and “Lucky” was one of the named apes in the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” movie, so I’m guessing Planet of the Apes had some sort of significance to Mr. Anon.
Edit:
Actually, now that I look at the image more, I can, in fact, see both the face of a dog when I look at it a certain way, with big ears on the left and right, or the image of an ape, with big arms on the left and right. Weird…
Definitely a dog. The jpg compression makes it hard to see but it’s a better on the attached one. If you want to I can explain you how to make him visible using mednafen (assuming you have the rom). I still have all my notes.

Btw. I remember that there were more debug menus which I activated through the emulator. I could for example choose the stage or select the speed on the figther selection screen. I didn’t make and screenshots though.
I never figured out if there is a button combination to activate those.

One other thing I noticed is that there is Fighter named “Lucky” on the select-screen next to Ben. There is no way to unlock him and loading him will just end in a glitchy mess. It will show the name “Lucky” underneath the healthbar though. By manipulating the window settings I was able to see him on the select screen.Heh… I guess “Lucky” must have reference to Planet of the Apes. Given your programming knowledge, can you make a conjecture as to why Mr. Anon may have put “Lucky” in there? Could he have been some sort of template character that may have saved time in the making of each character?
My guess is that Lucky was planned to be a character but eventually didn’t made it. His winning line would have been “Woof! Woof!”. Given that the fighter image is a dog, my guess is that it is Mr. Annos dog and he planned to have him in there as a easteregg.
His name already appears in the demo (written Luckey though) alongside with Ben, V. Boy and Martin. So there were a number special characters planned at some point. Martin is obviously a tribute to M.K. who build the fighting engine.
Here is another example of my obsession with this game. When the Demo was release I quickly removed the emulator block and managed to make the opponents playable. I think I also unlocked an stage that can’t be accessed in the demo.
I think enough time has passed to make it ok to release this.

Well you touched on everything I saw rumored online and them some. What’s this “Lucky” business all about though… hmm…I’m guessing that thunderstruck was trying to set up someone for something, but nobody jumped on it, so I guess I’ll try:
So, Thunder, what can you tell us about “Lucky”?
I kind of wanted to see if you know about it.
Well, back in the day I was amazed by what HF achieved and I have to admit that I found a way to dump the ROM and look into it’s inner workings. That’s how I knew about the unlock codes.

I would like to add that I don’t have the ROM anymore and that I no longer have a dumper. While I don’t get why the ROM is kept secret I didn’t want to be the one backstabbing the developers so I deleted it after I was done.

Yeah, it’s really great when your partner understands your video game hobby, and you don’t have to hide it. Even though my current girlfriend doesn’t play video games at all, I feel like I can talk about them whenever, especially Virtual Boy, and she at least tries to show interest. I couldn’t ever do that with just about everyone else I’ve dated.
I actually got my first Virtual Boy from my wife.

I did, I also know about Lucky.

does anyone know if the translated VF carts on eBay have a battery on the PCB?
I didn’t even know they exist. Do you have a link?
Virtual Fishing is the only translated game that doesn’t have a repo yet. I talked to Tusk a while ago and he did want to make a cib run. However, I haven’t heard from him since.
If you want to make repos of it just go for it. I don’t want money, just one or two free copies.
I just checked and there is the usual sticker underneath the Spanish one. So, most likely some reseller did put it there.
Cool stuff. Where did you find it?
Actually, it might be from Peru
