I’m just going to give up on the whole thing. I can’t fix it so the game displays the logo and ant on the intro screen. Here’s what I’ve been doing:
>Starting the game. Everything goes as normal.
>Turn it off at the fighter select screen.
>Wait one second.
>Turn it back on.
>The ant does not display where it is supposed to be.
WHY?!
I turn it off, then wait for about a second, then turn it back on again. One weird thing that was happening was some of the levels weren’t showing on one screen. Another was one line of pixels of the PRESS START message was showing during the intro, just weird things were happening all around.
I increased the 2000 number to 3000. At first I thought it was broken because it didn’t start, but it eventually started up and works great! I want to thank you tremendously for your help.
OK, I figured out how to put your code into the file. I get the following message when compiling my code with gccvb:
crt0(.text+0x2): undefined reference to ‘_bss_start’
crt0(.text+0x6): undefined reference to ‘_bss_start’
crt0(.text+0xa): undefined reference to ‘_bss_end’
crt0(.text+0xe): undefined reference to ‘_bss_end’
I think I might have found a folder for the one I’m using, but it doesn’t have that crt0.s file, but it does have a crt0.o file in it. Apparently I’m using gccVB version 2.95.
‘v810-as’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I put a batch file in a whole bunch of different folders and they all came up with this message. I’m afraid you’re going to have to dumb it down for me. A lot.
I got the test cartridge and I have found a few problems. The game itself works fine. It’s the part where you turn it off and then turn it back on that is troubling me. You’d think when you turned off the Virtual Boy, everything in the code would reset to 0. But this is not the case for some reason. The trouble I’m having is making stuff reset to 0 by hand. I went through the code and I deleted all the //comments that were actual code. It used to be 3,500 lines. Now it’s 2,718, so I have slimmed it by a large margin. And this is something that I can’t experiment with on emulation. It must be done with my FlashBoy. And it requires load after load of attempt to fix it so everything resets to 0, and after failing a few times (and with my knee hurting, I hurt it a week ago somehow and it still hurts. I and the VB have to be on the floor for fear the cat may knock over my VB and break it.) I thought if some C & VB coding guru would take a look at my code and reset everything to 0, that it would save me a lot of time since I don’t know what I’m doing here. The code is here, and the H files are on the Insecticide website.
After six months, I’ve decided to resume work on this. Last time I left off, I think I was just beginning work on the Zyx game. I made the bananas fall from the well, and if you miss one the game ends, but it’s not done yet. You’ll notice a little pathway that the Zyx cannot go down. That’s because I plan to add the Vuts in, creatures that occasionally go down the path in both ways that the Zyx must jump over.
Just a quick update. It appears that the Insecticide version would not work because it was 4 MB (like Mario’s Tennis). I just e-mailed an 8 MB version to the guy making the carts. Here’s hoping that works for him.
I got sound working on my Game Boy game, plus yesterday I solved the text problem I was having. The game I’m making here is an exploration game where the main objective is to find the mansion’s exit (which could be hard for a fruit fly to do). There’s only one screen so far, though, but you can talk to the toilet by hovering over it and pressing the A button.
We’re trying to make the game, but the guy who is going to make it for me (UncleTusk) is having some problems with the game working when he tried to burn it onto an actual cartridge, which is weird because it plays fine on a FlashBoy+. The contest winner has been chosen and the box art and manual is ready, though.
I found the original thread. It was from March. I didn’t realize how old it was. Well, if no one doesn’t do a write up until then and I get it for Christmas, I’ll be sure to say something about the Viewmaster VR.
