Just received a call from the technician. He tested the light and it works fine, said he’s having trouble getting the light to turn on/off from the power switch and asked if he could have some more time with it. I said yes…
8 batteries leaking in such a small enclosed space for such a long period of time really did a number to the pcb and all of its components. I really hope he can get it working.
Again, I’ll keep ya posted…

Well, blinding laser beams are pretty amazing, so I guess they’re justified.
Heh, I agree.
Quick update:
So I actually found some free time this morning so I ended up taking it to two different places. Both places specialize in computer repair.
The first place I took it to, the computer tech took a good look at it and said that he most likely can get it to work, so he excepted the challenge. But then when I told him that there was no way to get another one if anything was to happen to it, he then changed his mind and backed out. Said he didnt want to be responsible for it God forbid something was to happen.
So I then took it to another computer tech whos been working on computer boards for over 30 years. He took a good look at it and said he feels confident that he can get it working again. When I told him how rare it is and that there was basically no way to replace it if anything happened, he actually became excited to be a part of it. He then put on a pair of magnifying goggles and took a look at the light and said he couldn’t tell if it was a regular light or a Led, said he never saw a small light like that and became very curious to find out what it does as well.
So I left it with him, its in his hands now. Should get it back by the weekend, if not, then definitely sometime next week.
I’ll keep ya posted…
Sup guys… Sorry for the delayed update on this. I’ve actually been really busy the past couple of weeks but will soon have some free time to get this thing checked out. If it works, I’ll definitely post some more pics.

Is there a pin as well or just the little kickstand? I can’t imagine wearing this thick button with 8 batteries inside.
No pin, just a stiff piece of plastic that looks like you can bend it but would probably snap if you tried. This piece of plastic has a white plastic nub inserted through it, as if it was once part of something bigger, like some sort of special value cardboard display or something.
I dont think this was made to be worn like a button at all, unless you wanna walk around blinding people all day with the laser beams that shoot out of this thing ( thanks to the 8 batteries ). =P

Nice find. I would say your right about it being a men’s size L and a women’s size L.
Is that some small text under the fish tail or part of the design?
Thanks. Its text…

I sold a ton of those things on eBay, back in the day, and I never saw a checklist like that, so I assume it was used by employees. As a side note, one of my hard cases had an interesting attachment on the handle. It was kind of a u-shaped metal plate that dropped into place when you lifted the case by the handle. It held the 2 halves of the case together, presumably in case you hadn’t clamped it closed properly, so the VB wouldn’t fall out and end up on the floor. I only had one case with it – it’s around here somewhere.
Sorry, no pic – my stuff is in storage, pending a move later this month.
I know what your talking about, pinmagic. My first blockbuster rental unit case had that metal plate on the handle too. It was a black metal bar that would catch the lid if it had forgotten to be latched. I ended up selling mine just a few months after I got it so that I can purchase another rental case with a better sticker on the front of it. If you come across yours during your move, please do share a pic or two of the metal bar for documentation purpose.
Thanks for the input and good luck with your move.
I just put some more thought into this, and perhaps this checklist was used by Blockbuster video employees to check the contents of the rental cases once they were returned after rentals. I dont think it was ever intended to be included with the rental units but somehow this one found its way into one.
I’m on vacation so I’m nowhere near my collection, but isn’t there a picture of a boot/boots under the opening flap of the games box?

Did you happen to check out the preproduction unit that I acquired?
http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=31069#forumpost31069
The preproduction tap was packed inside the white-box system in the same place as your USA demo tap, but the preproduction tap came inside its own white box, which is certainly an official one. To me, it seems highly likely that your USA demo tap would have also had its own white box, the same as mine, at some point in time, but it later got thrown away.
Also, as I understand it, when the Virtual Boy was originally released commercially, there was a period of time when a person had to use batteries with the system because no adapter set or tap had been commercially released. Nevertheless, preproduction taps were definitely included with the preproduction systems, and demo taps were included with the very early demo systems. To me this is evidence that while Nintendo did have a prototype tap made and included with its early white-box systems, it was not ready to release that tap commercially. Once the tap and set were ready to be released commercially, the tap itself took on a new form as compared to the demo taps and preproduction taps that preceded it. This is why I would not at all expect an adapter set box to have been included with a white-box system, since adapter sets would not have been finalized at the time that Nintendo was shipping out its white-box systems.
Hmm, thats pretty interesting, I was not aware of the time period when ac adaptor tap sets were not available. To me, it just seemed that with the presence of the ac adaptor with my demo tap, that the demo tap might’ve been part of a “demo ac adaptor set” in a white box to go with the white box system.
I never thought of my demo tap being boxed individually like your preproduction jpn tap because all jpn taps were packeged in their own box, where as all the usa taps were packed as ac adaptor sets with ac adaptors included.
So I do wonder now, if my usa demo tap was packed just like your jpn preproduction tap, in its own little white box.
Really cool find btw on that jpn preproduction unit!
GEZ, does your white box demo unit include an adaptor tap, and is that tap packed in its own white box?

I am pretty sure a white box system came up for under $300 buy it now within the last few months. I almost bought it because I had never seen one before and it seemed like a great deal…it was probably something $250 or less to be honest. Maybe i should have picked it up, but I didn’t really know what the white box was for at that point and couldn’t justify the price tag for it :p
Yeah, that was me who bought that one. I nabbed that sucker up real quick! 🙂
The seller didn’t know what he had and sold it as a normal used Virtual Boy system with a White box. It was a “buy it now” for $299 + $15 for shipping.
But a sellers “Buy it now” price doesn’t determine what a item is worth. Its auctions with actual bids that will give you a good idea on what people are willing to pay for one of these units. But there just hasn’t been enough auctions to observe “auction sold” prices. The last actual auction that I have personally seen for one of these systems was atleast 3 years ago ( maybe a little longer ) and it sold for about $700 + shipping.
Of all my years of searching for rare VB items, I have actually seen a few of these systems and they always sell for the sellers “Buy it now” asking price.
Heck, I paid less money for my “New” White box VB unit, but that was years ago.
So I guess if your lucky, you’ll find one at a good “buy it now” price from a unsuspecting seller.

What does a white box VB (with box of course) go for these days, might put mine up for sale. Haven’t seen one available in years…Completeness would certainly be a factor. Does yours come with its own adapter tap, and does it include its own white box?
If your asking if his Demo unit includes a White boxed USA Demo tap, then I would have to guess it comes in a standard USA retail VB AC adaptor set box, minus the colors and graphics, so the adaptor set box would be all White and probably with some text written on it.
See, my USA Demo tap that was recently discovered, was packed in with my “used” White box Demo system. The tap was placed in the spot of the cardboard insert where the stands support brackets lay. Included with this Tap was an AC adaptor, and that was crammed underneath the cardboard insert, indicating the Tap was most likely Not originally packed in the box that the Demo unit was packaged in, but later placed in there by the original owner.
Speaking of the AC Adaptor, this Adaptor is identical to all my other snes-002 AC Adaptors. The only difference that I can notice, is that the wire on the adaptor has text written all over it, where all my other snes-002 Adaptors do Not. And it is indeed a genuine snes-002 AC Adaptor.
Does anyone else have a snes-002 AC Adaptor with text written on the wire?

Its hard to tell how much these systems are worth because they rarely ever surface in auctions. I’ve seen one complete in box with the box beat to hell, sell in a auction for about $700 about 3 years ago.
So I’ll say that they’re worth more than the japan mosaic box demo systems. That should give you a good idea.
If you are selling yours, then I would suggest you place it in a auction and let the collectors fight over it. I imagine there to be alot of collectors just waiting for one of these White Box units to complete their Boxed Virtual Boy collection.
Have you submitted the Serial Number of your White Box Demo unit to the Virtual Boy Serial Number Inventory yet?

I was playing the UFO table and noticed that the part that opens to reveal the left hole (the one that gives you Center Post, Super Kickback, or the Lucky Star games) was moving very fast upwards. It went out of the screen bounds and then reappeared at the bottom about 30 pixels to the left, and when it reached the left edge, it continued at the right side of the screen.I would have taken a screenshot but it happened just as I lost my last puck. I don’t remember doing anything special to trigger the bug, so I can’t give instructions to reproduce it. Has anyone experienced this before?
I experienced the same glitch on the same table. This happened to me twice, once about 3 years ago and the other just lastnite. The door would float around the table then go off screen only to reappear from different borders of the screen. Not only was it floating around but the 3-D depth of the door would get so dramatic that it will cause you to go cross-eyed really badly. The door would go back to its original state after losing the puck. The first time this happened, I had no idea what I did to trigger it. But lastnite it seemed like all I did was hit the puck into the door just as it closed and knocked it off its hinges. I would assume that perfect timing is required to pull this one off but haven’t confirmed that.
Yeah, nice find!
Toss that number into the VB Serial Number Inventory.
