I’ll buy one if they become available!
(I didn’t have funds for the first run, but now I do) 🙂
I agree with VBmills.
When I repaired my VB I had the same thing happen. Turned out to be just a piece of dust on one of the revolving mirrors. Used a little compressed air to blow it off and it was back to normal 🙂
Now THAT is cool. Rez is one of my favorite games of all time. I think it would be awesome to hear the OST of Rez played through a Virtual Boy, if nothing else!
🙂
Wow, thanks for the update M.K.!
Very cool experience to play GB games on the VB 🙂
Color me as another interested gamer if this ever has another print 🙂
If not, it’s cool to have seen videos of it!
Sweet deal!
Can you post a video of its game play when you get it?
I’m excited about your new site!
I remember when the gameboy color and neo geo pocket color were new, I always had a stronger preference for the NGPC for its arcade titles.
I played its kiosk ever time I went to my local toys’r’us. (they only had the sonic demo in it, so I must have played through that tens of times haha)
I think I still have the ad that that first introduced me to it. (maybe I should find it and scan it for your site?)
Anyways, never did get the NGPC since it was taken off the market before I saved enough money (I was young), so I ended up buying a gameboy color instead. Wish I would have known it was on clearance in other stores at the time, though..
I finally bought one off ebay last year! ^_^ I’ve had a heck of a time finding manuals to go along with the cart only games I have, so I quite look forward scans as well as everything else.
I’ll definitely be joining up!
I’ve come across this as well. It’s usually easy to tell if it’s a shill bidder (ie having 0 feedback and no communication). For those cases, I’ve just opened an ebay case so I didn’t have to pay fees and relist it.
Recently I’ve grown accustomed to using “Immediate Payment Required” on my buy it now items and haven’t had any issues since.
Regarding fees, eBay should be referred to as ePay.
Other than fees, do you have preference to list using auction versus buy it now?
This was a good read, very cool to see PVB in a print magazine!
I have a Japanese model with PLAYLINK on it with V10093028.
I also have a North American model with EXT on it with VN100200591.
Yes, I second the high probability of the display cable issue.
I bought a “used once, like new” Japanese VB CIB with broken display for cheap because of a single display cable that needed to be solder fixed.
It’s a great deal for personal use, but probably not very much of a good deal for mass repairs and reselling.
That is, unless one goes in to buying, fixing and reselling with the mindset of saving as many VB’s as possible from doom!
Did you perform a continuity test to see if there are any shorts between pins for the display cable?
I had lines, then blackness due to a few shorts from my first soldering job [a bit of solder between two pins as well as lifted tin when the plastic melted and receded], so I checked each pin and corrected each problem and it has been working perfectly since.
Not sure why there is no sound, however..
Ah! $40 would have been a wonderful deal, sorry to hear this!
I purchased two consoles, advertised as broken on ebay:
The first, I won for $20, coming in with just the unit and no controllers or games. While I was cleaning it, I flipped it on its side to get some dirt off, then when finished I plugged it back in and it worked just as normal! I think there is a loose solder connection between the two boards, but so far I haven’t had any problems with it!
Searching hard for a controller, I saw prices go from $50 to $100 for a used one. I finally bit the bullet and purchased another broken Vectrex unit with controller for $75. That one has proved to be a problem to fix and I will need to discharge the CRT which I am afraid to do.
I picked up a VecMulti from the Atariage forums for $70usd, and it was worth every penny! Highly highly recommended! Works perfectly and I can play every game I throw at it. I just wish developers would release roms of all those amazing homebrew games.
I’m in the process of printing the manuals and am searching for a good local printing service to get the overlays printed as I feel like I am missing out on some of the experience.
Those sharp vector lines though, so amazing!
If there were two consoles I could keep out of my entire collection, it would be without a doubt the Vectrex and the Virtual Boy, my favorite underdogs of gaming history.
This board compelled me to finally purchase an R-Zone!
I won it for $13 USD shipped, and it came with the head unit, a NOS Star Wars: Jedi Adventure (with yellowed packaging that I am tempted to open..), and the game that I really wanted on the R-Zone, NiGHTS Into Dreams!
However, NiGHTS has bubbles on its LCD. I do know that this is not a unique issue based upon what I have seen with other carts for sale on ebay.
I’ll post some pictures so as to make (potential) R-Zone collectors aware of it:
Here is a shot of the front:

A shot of the back:

A shot of the LCD directly:

And a shot of the LCD through the reflective lens:

As you can see, it is not noticeable during game play.
I have done research online, but the nets have turned up dry with information.
Does anybody know what might cause this, or how to fix it, merely for optimal collecting purposes?
This is QUITE a release!
It is a fun game and my introduction to Faceball series as well.
And I must say it was exciting to see the VB hitting many news sites across the web, as well!
😎
Hope you can get ample fundraiser cushion and that you can keep the actual prototype in your collection for a long time to come!
Definitely would not even ponder calling this hard work insulting. I don’t thinks it’s very mature..
From the screenshots, it looks like a faithful recreation!
Thank you for putting work into this game when it seemed hopeless the community would ever see it!
I went to flash it to my FlashBoy+, but noticed it wouldn’t flash. Then I realized the file size was 0kb. So I downloaded it a few times on different browsers with the same results. I remember seeing a similar occurrence on the forum’s in the past (might have been the first space pinball upload).
Can you re-upload it for us?
Just ran through a few levels on my FB+; it feels like a whole new experience having mario themed mazes.
Most importantly, it is rather enjoyable! Commendable work! 🙂

I would love to be able to play the version of snake that goes with this rad birthday story; can you post the rom here for us KR155E?
🙂Nah, I don’t really want to release Ben’s version, but I certainly will release version 1.2 soon, which will have all of the improvements found in Ben’s version, like a fixed save function working on hardware, plus maybe some more updates like additional languages. 🙂
That sounds most excellent! I am excited for its release and look forward to seeing what other updates might be added.
🙂
The duration of all your VB reviews is as long as a full length movie!
On another note, do you have any plans to review future releases of homebrew games?
After hearing this I went back and flashed Game Hero to my flashboy and played the same track…needless to say, I also thought something like “Game Hero: Redux” would be phenomenal.
It sounds AMAZING!
