Left screen adhesive been fixed 5 times..

Original stand clip was broken due to poor handling and was left for a decade. But I recently purchased and installed the replacement clip

Recently, I realised that the previous owner purposely unscrew and altered the stand clip unit position the opposite way round. I have now fixed fixed the stand to the correct position, with the stand screws ‘secured’ from a often misbelieved wobbly state to a more stable state.

I’m also from UK with a US Virtual boy with a JP Tap and yes. The Japanese tap works. I used the 100v Famicom AC adapter and it worked well.

It seems the original mega drive power brick also seems to work… according to some sources

Wow. The unused sound effects and music does add variety. That unused version of Megu (Risa Katagiri is a afterthought by J-Wing) is also an interesting find. Maybe J-Wing requested Megumi to censor clevage during the development.

Also, since you reverse engineered the game, it will be very helpful to use as a groundup/reference to a possible unofficial sequel, ‘Virtual Lab 2’ (Working TItle). (The concept itself was approved by Megumi herself)

Concepts for the Homebrew game, ‘Virtual Lab 2’ (Working Title)

If only we could find the guy who drew Risa Katagiri, it would be perfect…

Hi KR155E, Cassidy.

Thanks for interviewing Megu-Tan san and making a fully fledged interview. It was both interested to hear about the production background, and was shocked about the dark story behind it. I really wish Megu-Tan san best of luck.

Virtual boy is unorthodox as a video game console, and that’s a good thing. Nintendo in its core, is a toy company and Gunpei knew that well. It is a unique 3D toy, which served its purpose. The reason why people still fusses that Virtual Boy is a bad console is because it was overhyped as a ‘Virtual Reality machine’.

Update- Here’s the updated concept art for the VL2 girl! (currently unnamed).

Looks awesome!

On the Twitter description, it stated that he joined a VRChat group called ‘なでなでforce‘ (pet-pet force) and found out there’s a discord channel. From the introduction forum, it’s revealed that Megumi’s name is ‘綾瀬めぐみ‘ and he’s a man in the 50’s.

Thanks for the reply, KE155E!

It seems J-wing was too lazy to request Megumi to redo the sprites for the final appearance, forcing them to label the character sprite intended to be a 17 year old as a 13 year old.

Anyways the name, Megumi Ayase was found from the Pinned June 2020 tweet (in Japanese), showcasing her(?) first involvement in a Videogame business, as a Programmer/Graphic Designer/Question Creator of an unlicensed PC Engine hentai quiz game ‘Quiz Toukou Shashin’, released by Game Express (AKA-Hacker International). https://twitter.com/Derekmegumishin/status/1268785399792455681

I’m not sure whether Nacoty was Megumi’s one person studio or not, but based on how Chiki Chiki Tengoku was also made by the Nacoty/J-Wing duo, it could be possible. Since Megumi has also participated in a Gameboy version of ‘Armored Police Metal Jack’, it might worth a check whether the ‘Nacoty’ brand was also featured in that game’s ending credits (Although I’m not sure whether it includes the ending credit.)

Whilst It would be possible to shoot additional questions, I’m not sure whether Megumi’s alive and well, since her(?) last post was on July 15th and the final ‘Like’ tweet was on July 23rd and she was reported to be in hospital for a coronary artery surgery on presumably July 8-11.

Here’s the link for the series of tweets (in Japanese):

If this sprite sheet was legitimately purposed for the Virtual Boy port of Gekisha Boy planned to be released on 1995-1996, It’s mind-boggling to see Gekisha Girl; The 2nd Player which officially featured in the 2002 PS2 sequel, Gekisha Boy 2: Tokudane Taikoku Nippon (Planned to be released in Europe as ‘Polaroid Pete’, but was canceled) and the aforementioned ‘Simple 1500 Series Vol 094 – The Cameraman – Gekisha Boy Omakefu’ (As an unlockable 2nd Player) within the sprite sheet 31-32. Maybe Virtual Gekisha Boy was either planned to have a 2 player mode or a character select option (like Nester’s Funky Bowling).

There was a similar instance with Pokémon Puzzle Challange (Game Boy) which not only included a Mugshot sprite sheet of the SNES Panel De Pon characters but also the characters which later officially appeared on the Gamecube version.

Thanks, KGRAMR!
I’m Looking forward to the refined version!
(The cursor on the 2nd ‘gameplay’ image is planned to have a ‘zip’ Function which closes the piece’s mouth, controlled with a right D-Pad and R button. This is implemented to solve the original’s issue where a chain getting ruined by a blocking piece, causing a eventual game over).

I’m also interested in owning one. It seems that the original guys doesn’t make Flashboy+ any more, so the only chance would a lucky auction listing for now.

Whilst we’ll never know when it will happen again, the chance of Unreleased virtual boy Games/prototype Leaks might be likely since the July 2020 leaks prominently featured SNES,N64 (and GBA) content which mostly made within a close time period.

Whilst this might divert from the original question for making the virtual boy full color, would it be possible to replace the red led/eyepiece with green led/eyepiece to make the ‘Game Boy’ virtual boy?
